i've got a new conspiracy theory that the nfl is secretly behind all of the leagues trying to compete with the nfl - using them as test laboratories for rule changes like this

I like this. I mean anything is better than what they have currently.

After a full season of this new kick off format, I personally would like to go back to what we had before. I don't like it.

I agree but I doubt they will.

It has taken away the surprise on side kick.

When has the surprise on side kick ever really worked though? I may be in an island here but I actually like the new kickoff rules.

More than it does now. Now you have to call it and alert the receiving team.

I just think it looks awkward. It's a visual thing for me. The normal kickoff created an exciting atmosphere when you start the game. Now no one even cares about the kickoff. It's just there. They basically removed it from the game.

Dont think it makes that much of a difference either way. Kick offs are for a beer run anyway, I dont remember the last time I paid attention to a kick off.

I think it's an improvement.

I do too. At least we’re seeing more returns…

Only change I would make is to make it more punitive to kick it out of the end zone. Instead of the receiving team getting the ball at the 30 - make it the 35 or 40.

That probably has more to do with putting touchbacks at the 30 than the new format.
I don’t think the new format is an improvement in terms of entertainment, but it probably is safer, which was the point and probably means it’s not going back.

Lots of times, including the Saints-Colts Super Bowl.

Cowboys scored on a kickoff this year. So it’s not like the new rules prevent kick returns. Under the old rules we saw many more touchbacks.
