Hard Knocks Offseason Giants

So they get the GM and a lot of the front office on mic as they evaluate players, most of them on other teams or in the draft class.

Of course the cameras and the mics make them do and say different things than they otherwise would.

Lot of the discussion in the first two episodes is about what they will do about Saquon. They may have already decided to let him walk by the time they film these episodes but they tell his agent and Saquon that they are not going to franchise tag him and let him go out and test the market.

That may be a decision they regret.

At the combine they're interviewing every player, even Caleb and Jaden that they were unlikely to draft. They also interview the top WRs, including Nabors whom they end up drafting.

Daboll is funny in the interviews, really quizzes the QBs.

Again, how much of it is for the benefit of cameras?

Because a lot of these people may be out of these jobs in a couple of seasons if these decisions don't work out.

It was funny when Daniel Jones sound smarter than Daboll even when he tried to dumb down to his level of knowledge to not offend him. Lebron can learn a thing or two from Danny Dimes on how to interact with coaches instead of acting like a know it all.

The offseason version is far better than the typical training camp. I actually think it's more likely than not that Daboll & the GM are both eventually fired.

I thought Nabers was the best WR in the draft. I could easily see him being the OROY. But that team is headed nowhere with Jones as the starter.

Daboll would have traded up to replace Daniel with Daniels, which was the smartest comment he has made on Hard Knocks.

They tried to make a big deal out of the Giants letting Saquon walk to the Eagles.

They had the owner Mara talking like "he's our best offensive player" and "I don't want to see him on the Eagles."

But obviously the front office made an assessment and prioritized building up the line and acquiring Burns far more than keeping Saquon, because they figured they could get a decent starting RB for a fraction of what it would have cost them to keep Barkley.

It is interesting that the targeted salaries for free agents all turned up higher than they hoped. Or maybe they knew but they pretended for the show because they didn't have too much of a problem paying the higher prices.

Then the free agents all recorded IG videos, as if they were excited to join the Giants. No mainly they were happy to get a higher contract in free agency rather than have to settle for a 1-year deal somewhere.

Giants GM seems like a nice guy. Remains to be seen if he will build a top team.

Basically allowed Daboll to pick Nabers, seemed to support all the scouts. Now maybe he’s a tougher boss off camera but on this show he came across as good father and husband and a real cool boss.

They all celebrated after their draft. Reality is that not all the picks will pan out. Some players they’re expecting to start as rookies or get a lot of snaps but likely won’t meet expectations.

It would be cool if they continued with the Giants in training camp but it will be the Bears in training camp starting Tuesday and still another team for in season.

I guess this is all that NFL Films makes now. They used to do the weekly recap shows. Oh maybe they still make Inside the NFL but that’s on the CW network?

Giants and Joe Schoen looking more and more stupid now.

Saquon could be MVP, maybe Super Bowl MvP for their biggest rival.

Michael Lombardi pointed out that the Giants could have paid Saquon the same money if Schoen didn’t overpay for a vet backup QB and they’re now playing Devito instead of Jones or the vet backup.

Eagles winning the Super Bowl with Saquon the MvP could get Schoen fired.
