College Football Playoff

Post#1 » by bwgood77 » Tue Dec 3, 2024 5:47 pm

With Miami losing, there is a good chance Alabama gets in. Who do you think deserves it more between the two? Or do you think someone else like the loser of Iowa St/ASU, BYU, SMU (if they lose to Clemson), Boise St (if they lose to UNLV) deserves it more? Or South Carolina? South Carolina lost to Bama on the road by 2, but it's other losses are to LSU and Ole Miss. Bama's losses are to Vanderbilt, Tennessee and a bad one to Oklahoma.

Bama is listed 14th here in probability but the losers of Iowa St/ASU and Clemson/SMU are very likely to drop below them. And Boise St if UNLV beats them. I guess there is a slight chance Boise St or SMU could stay ahead of them if they lose, but probably not. Miami would probably have a better case than SMU then..I think. But Bama probably has the edge...as usual.

It's really between Miami & Alabama as I understand and view the picture. Miamis' best win is UF but that was the first game of the season before they started playing Lagway. I'm struggling to see any quality wins they have...I've watched them play a bunch because they're fun to watch. On offense they're as talented as anyone in the country and can put up 21 points in 5 minutes (which they did 3x this season in the 4th quarter) but their defense is beyond trash. Like laughably bad. The Syrcause game was an epitome of that. Complete joke to lose that 21-0 lead.

I don't think Alabama deserves to get in either though. We're really saying South Carolina is their best win...okay. They probably should have lost the Clemson game and got lucky as hell to pull that out.

Personally, I want to see Boise St in based on the eye test.

IMHO, Tennessee is better than both Miami and Alabama.

I remember seeing early in the season Miami was down to Cal like 35-7 and I thought "wow" and then later I noticed Miami had come back to win like 39-38 or something. Never thought much of them since then. But Bama's loss to Oklahoma was terrible. Vandy isn't as bad but it's not like they are some top team, even in the SEC. Personally I'd rather see Colorado than either of them, but they appear to be out of it despite having the same # of losses. Of course the losses are probably worse and the wins not as impressive, but still. Maybe it's old Pac 12 bias.

Yes, but they are in no matter what. Bama would be the 4th SEC team to get in.

SMU looked dominant most of the year, I might take them if they lose a close one to Clemson. Otherwise you gotta take Bama even though they've been mediocre most of the season. That Georgia win on top of head to head over SC gets them in.

Miami needed multiple miracles to even have 2 losses in a weak conference. No B12 team has a worthwhile resume either.

If ASU loses a close game I'd rather have them in than Bama or Miami. I'd honestly rather this PO's now that it's expanded be more like march madness and let's judge teams at where they are at now vs. beginning of the season.

UF + ASU are both top 12 teams rn.

They beat Georgia. Winning by 4 touchdowns in Baton Rouge also not easy.

Maybe they need to reduce the number of teams in the playoffs, hard to find great teams after top 10.

Outright Winner

Oregon+350
Texas+435
Ohio State+450
Georgia+475
Notre Dame+900
Penn State+1000
Tennessee+1695
Alabama+1800
SMU+3000
Indiana+4470

Would have guessed lower odds on Notre Dame. Also it is odd they cant get a first round bye no matter what, there are almost always have special provisions in bylaws for ND.

Tennessee is worth a shot at this price too.

No team really gives confidence, Georgia might be the closest but I dont like their quarterback. Starting second round I dont think there will be line bigger than a touchdown.

I don’t think Miami should have gotten in. I’m fine with the rankings. JMO

This is legit embarrassing for the Georgia program and for his hopes of being an NFL QB.

That is just a west coast homer pick on your part. Me and most of us on the East coast don't want Boise state in. They can't beat anyone of the top 8 teams and would get blown out. And who the hell wants a team from the Mountain west getting in just to get blown out by at least 3 T.D.'s by all those big boy programs?

Then I would put in SMU if they win the ACC and my eye test tells me Ole Miss but I don't think they will make it but are deserving imho.

Do you recall the first game of the season? When they almost beat Oregon? Everyone thought Oregon was overrated but maybe Boise St is just really good...

I like them because they play a different style and their QB is actually pretty good even though he doesn't throw that much. I'd rather see Boise St than treadmill SEC teams like Ole Miss or USCJr who have 3+ losses.

What else is new. We disagree. Like I said, Boise State has no chance at all against any of those top 8 programs. And its too bad we can't get an Ole Miss vs. Boise State match up. I'd bet a ton of money Boise State get their Azz beat bad. Boise State does not belong in the college playoff. If they do get in, it will be one and done and I fully expect they get blown out.

Does Ryan Day get the ax if Ohio State doesn't get to the Championship game?
