Will Charles Rogers ever make a comeback to the NFL?

Post#1 » by straightguji » Tue Apr 3, 2007 6:19 pm

This guy was a former #2 pick by the Lions. He was basically the Calvin Johnson of that time, being hyped as the next amazing WR.

I still think he's very talented, he just couldn't stay healthy and didn't have a good work ethic.

Still pretty young, like 26 I think. Why aren't any NFL teams taking a chance on him? IMO it's a low risk-high reward type situation. If he doesn't pan out then just cut him, I mean if Andre Wadsworth can get a shot than anyone can. :P

They're saying it's due to a lack of speed. He just doesn't have enough burst.
Does anyone know how fast he ran the 40 at the combine? If it was in like 4.4 range or slower I can't imagine that he got much slower than that. If he was in the 4.6s or higher I can't imagine why he was drafted #2 to begin with. It doesn't make much sense to me.

I don't know about his Pro Day, but I'm almost certain that he didn't participate in the 2003 Combine.

He actually timed at 4.26s and 4.33s on the 40-yard Dash at his Pro-Day.

I heard (rumors) that he had some trouble with the law but it just never became public.

He was drafted 2 because he had the ability to get up very high and play like Calvin Johnson, but I saw in the paper a while ago Millen didn't like him because of his lack of a work ethic.

Even so, I'm suprised no one has taken a shot on him.

He has a lot of red flags character wise, plus, he has had trouble staying healthy. Put those two together, and it scares away most teams.

I read somewhere that Rogers fell when doing cuts while trying out for the Dolphins.

I'm really surprised he didn't make it in the NFL. He was a beast in college.

It must be. Usually the only players Millen doesn't like are good players that could help his team.

Rogers is too much in love with the doobie to be productive at anything. Plus, injuries made him an athletic shadow of his former self.

And here I still saw him as being young...

For a training camp invite or whatever, why not? Can't hurt. Besides, 40 times don't mean everything - in fact, I think they're responsible for a lot of busts. (i.e. average players with great 40 times get drafted too high)

"He had a workout for the Kansas City Chiefs in January and apparently flopped miserably, with a time in the range of 4.8 seconds for the 40-yard dash.

Rogers had a recorded time of 4.28 before the 2003 draft. Why a receiver who once had sprinters speed now runs like a defensive lineman is a mystery."
