I thought it was good idea for the bears, but Jerry Angelo didnt.

I'm in the middle on this. I think the verdict is yet to be decided on how good of a deal this could've been.

I'm glad. Its really frustrating as a Skins fan to watch Snyder get raped in the ass by every damn GM in the league.

It's interesting that the Skins would not part with Nicholson, who basically wouldn't have a role with Briggs on board. If they like him so much then they have no need for Briggs, and he's so much more cap friendly than shelling out a check for $18M. Sometimes I wonder if Dan Snyder actually likes making costly decisions; it's as if he uses the Skins as his spending toy, or that he feels that throwing money around like Pacman at a strip club will make him more likable.

As for Briggs, I have an informed hunch that the Bears are trying to ship him to as lousy a team as they can find. And Arizona just might accomodate them, so long as the Cards are convinced they have no shot at Joe Thomas at #5.

What a stupid move by the Bears.

Briggs is a very good LB. But that is all he is. He isn't an elite one.

Keep in mind the last two players to line up to Urlacher's right: Warrick Holdman and Rosie Colvin. Both of them looked stellar as well (I would say Briggs is better than either, but you get the point).

Briggs has played in a defense that sets the WIL up to be a stud. Every Tampa-2 WLB has outstanding production. Be it June, Brooks, Piasante (or whatever the Rams guy was when healthy). With Urlacher in the middle commanding the offenses attention, Briggs gets to roam free with virtual impunity. As did Holdman and Colvin before him (Colvin playing more a Kevin Greene blitzing role in the pre-Lovie days).

I wager that when Briggs leaves, he will see it isn't so easy to make those plays without Urlacher beside him and two safeties over him in coverage.

Bears made an absurd mistake. Cover-2 LBs can be had in the 2nd or 3rd round easily (the small safety-LB tweeners make good fits) where-as the value of the 6th overall is huge. To say nothing of the already mentioned distraction factor.

This won't go away so easily, so I expect it to be news up until the draft, and I expect a trade to happen.

I like Colvin more than Briggs, but he has been injured for most of his Patriot career.
