Fans from non-NFL cities, how did you choose your team?

For most of the fans that are not born/reside in a NFL city, how did you become a fan of a particular team?

Well at the time (2002), I didn't know many US cities. I knew about NY though, and it seemed like a good enough place for my team to come from. The only issue then was the fact that NY has two NFL teams.

The Jets' uniform looked much better in my opinion, and they were more fun to play as in Madden for whatever reason. As the season went on, the Jets were a lot of fun to watch with Pennington emerging as the starter over Vinny, so that solidified them as "my team".

Father was born in Maryland so became a Baltimore Colts fan, he later moved to Indiana...Colts followed, kind of ironic how it worked out. I took the reigns.

I like the game more than any one team. I like players that work hard and excel in systems, and I like coaches who preach solid fundamental defence and running the ball. I also liked Steve Young and Brett Favre a lot. :P

I've tended to like good teams (and have been accused of being a bandwagon jumper) but I like teams that, to use a Larry Brown idiom, play the right way. They tend to win. Gee, I wonder why?

I have always liked the NFC for some reason though, dunno why.

Washington Redskins
San Francisco 49ers
Green Bay Packers
Philadelphia Eagles*
Carolina Panthers*

Above are in chronological order, * means favourite right now. I was really happy when the Steelers won it all though, good for Cowher and them.

Oregon pretty much gets blasted with Seahawks so its hard not to like em, plus my fav team (blazers) are own by the same guy... dunno why that would mean anything but hey its a link.

Best friend's dad was a lifetime 49er fan and almost made the team..

Knew each other since we were babies and would I go with the flow? Hell naw. #22 Emmit Smith jersey hangs beside my bed and I sleep wrapped up in a Cowboys blanket.

Go Boys.

when i was young, and started getting into football.
I had a choice between Lions due to barry sanders, Bills due to me growing up in Toronto and the Eagles due to Randall Cunningham.

What made me choose the eagles was my dad bought me an umbrella helmet of the eagles. and thats that.:P
What a great choice looking back:P

I live on the east coast of Canada anda 49ers fan.

I liked Joe Montana when I was a kid playing schoolyard football. I founda Montana jersey on the street one day when I was 7 or 8 and took it home. The legend grew from there :D

I could either root for the Jets or the Giants, but the Jets dicked over the Patriots for Curtis Martin and Parcells and the Giants are lame.

So i was a Patriots fan all the way.

Nobody's going to step up and say they picked the team with the prettiest uniforms? Or "I picked the Patriots because I love the way Tom Brady's ass looks in those football pants."
