Why Didn't the Raiders Release Walter Instead?

After starting 8 games and producing 3 TDs and 13 INTs, I don't understand why Pickett was released before Walter. Clearly a move to keep Walter around to help Russell learn the offense.

As soon as Russell gets into camp, Walter will be released. They've been shopping him for a 7th rounder for months to no avail.

Damn man what luck this guy has. Was guaranteed a starting spot in ASU but the coach who brought him left and the new guy favored some other scrub. Fought his way into the starting QB spot and played awesome. He wasthen touted as a first round pick. Injured his arm. Got drafted late by Oakland. Fought for playing time against scrubs along with the probably the worst supporting cast in NFL history. Now he might not even play on an NFL team. :banghead:

Great arm strength, pretty accurate in short and intermediate routes, nice high release and consistent motion, good zip out of his hand. Has zero feel for pressure and does not react well when he's pressured. Poor mobility, barely adequate footwork, doesn't go thru his progressions quick enough. His arm isn't as awesome as he thinks it is, will force balls into coverage. Not much of a field general and does not command respect in the huddle. Career clipboard toter who could step in and not lose a game if called upon once or twice a season, provided with a good OL and a legit deep threat.
