Jets Fans vs. Chad Pennington

How could Jets fans do something so classless like cheer the guy when he got injured? Maybe some Jets fans can explain this to me because I don't understand the hate.

Pennington was having a pretty good game, he plays hard and leaves it all out on the field, and then badly twists his ankle. You could see how much pain he was in but he got up and tried to walk it off, only to fall back down, and then gets back up and falls down again. Then finally he got up without any help and hopped off the field on one leg.

At first I thought maybe they were cheering to encourage him because I couldn't even imagine a group of fans doing something as classless as cheering their own player getting injured. But sadly that was what they were doing.

Why is he so hated by Jets fans? He's better than the other starting QB in New York. He might not have the strongest arm but the guy has heart and seems like a good leader. I'm glad he came back into the game and shut those fans up by putting together a great drive.

Pennington better than the QB who threw for 314 yds and 4 TDs last night? Ok dude, I don't think enough oxygen is reaching your brain.

Not like Pennington had a bad game, he had a QB rating of 130. While I don't think Pennington is a great QB, he sure deserves better than what some Jets fan gave to him yesterday. He had a solid year last year and the team went to the playoffs...I just don't get the hate.

Any Jets fans care to step to the plate? I'm really curious why he's so hated.

He's hated because he has a noodle. i don hate him a all because he's shown whenever he's healthy we go to the playoffs. i guess people just want a qb who can do more then dunk 10 yard passes every play, that's the impression i get but i still dont get it. he takes pay cuts, he pours his heart out on the field and he gets to the playoffs.

Your boy can't stay healthy and when he is he can't throw it more than 10 yds. He hasn't had more TDs than Eli since Eli's rookie year (when he only played nine games). Eli is the better QB. It's just a matter of wether you can accept reality.

Well Manning is showing his ability to stay healthy this season too. If I needed to pick between the two to win a game I'll take Pennington any day of the week.

I didnt cheer when Pennington got injured, I was more concerned when he tried to get back up and fell right back down. However the answer you are looking for is the most and probably all Jet fans know that Chad can only carry us so far. Clemens has a much better arm, fans watched him beat up on third stringers. Pennington has a history of always getting injured, thats why a lot of fans soured on him. Though one thing proven is, that Pennington knows how to win.

He's not my boy, I'm a Chargers fan. I'd take Rivers ahead of either of those guys.

But I don't care how bad a football player someone is, cheering when they get hurt is taking it too far. That is taking it a whole 'nother level. But considering Pennington is a classy guy and plays hard, is a good leader, and he had just willed himself to stand up after falling twice from the pain, how can they cheer something like that?

I felt bad seeing the way he was rolling around the grass, then standing up and trying to walk it off, and then falling back down. I don't get joy from watching people in pain like that. So I'm trying to understand the mindset of people who do, and why.

It's not like this guy is a Ryan Leaf, class-A douche bag. But even then, as badly as I hated Leaf, I never would have cheered if he got hurt. And Pennington is 10X the QB Leaf was.

Yeah I saw it live too. The replays probably have poor audio. They were pretty loud when I watched it live. The announcer even said something like "I'm not even going to comment on the crowd's reaction".

He could miss the first game of his football career (HS-NFL) next week. Not exactly injury prone. On the other hand, Pennington tears his rotator cuff every time he picks up a bag of groceries.

If I needed to pick between the two to win a game I'll take Pennington any day of the week

That's why you're not a GM.

Back to the original topic. Pennington is not going to be on the Jets too much longer. They're going to have Clemens take over eventually. I feel bad for him because I think he's a pretty good QB. He shouldn't be booed like that.

everyone else did. they were pretty damn loud.

I was wondering why no one was helping chad get to teh sideline? Not even an offensive lineman or anything helped me to get up and out to teh sideline when he kept falling down in pain. I dont get that.

yeah that really struck me as well. There was one camera angle where you see the other Jets players just standing there watching him hobble away, and no one even looked like they were approaching.

What exactly has Eli proved in this league?

First year 6-10, can't blame him tho it's his rookie year.

Second year 11-5, but was horrible against Carolina in the playoffs.

Third year 8-8, barely made the playoffs. Played ok against the Eagles.

Now lets look at Pennington.

2002- 9-7 and had as season many QB's can only dream of. 22 TD's 6 Picks. Beat up on the Colts in round 1 (31-0), Lost to the Raiders in round 2.

2003- Only played 10 games, Team was very bad 6-10.

2004- Pennington plays 13 games plays well team goes 10-6. Beat San Diego in the first round. Lost by 3 to the Steelers in round 2.

2005- Hey guess who's hurt again? Only played 3 games.

2006- NYJ was a solid team. Pennington had his moments, but overall not a great season. Lost to NWE in the first round, but did throw for 300 yards.

It's pretty obvious that if Pennington is healthy the Jets are going to the playoffs. What is even more impressive is he made it without much of a running game last season as well. Like I said if healthy of course I'll take Chad Pennington to win me one game. Now obviously if I was starting a franchise I'm taking Eli, but that's not what I said.
