Owens said Wednesday he was fined "a good chunk of money" -- which he later defined as thousands of dollars -- for a celebration that included him using the goal post and football to poke fun at the New England Patriots' spying scandal during Dallas' 37-20 victory over Miami this past Sunday.

Sometimes I wonder if the leagues get a little too image-conscious about that stuff.

Fining him for that is a joke. I know commish likes to run a tight ship, but you can't take all of the fun out of the league.

It's in the rulebook. Can't use the football as a prop. This happened before Goodell when Steve Smith and Chad Johnson used the football for everything imaginable.

While I disagree with it (I think it's fun, at least sometimes, to see these athletes get creative with their celebrations), rules are rules.

Heck, Dennis Northcutt was flagged a 15 yard penalty for spiking the ball after he made a catch in the Jags/Falcons game. Gotta love Reggie Williams reaction to it though, who on the next catch, faked a spike and then laid the ball on the ground before walking away.

why can wr dance and do whatever they want after a touchdown. but if a hitter even looks at the pitcher or looks at his homerun leave the ball park its unsportsmen like?

The problem is the spiking rule is called arbitrarily, which makes it a pretty unfair factor in games since it's a 15 yard penalty. The last thing the league needed was another instance of poor officiating.

As for the touchdown celebration rule, the league needs to stop telling the fans what they want. I don't know a single person who doesn't find the antics entertaining on some level.

I think you're choosing the wrong examples to try and prove a double standard.

The Saint's can lose all 16 games, and baseball still sucks, and always will.

I played baseball... anyone whos played knows WHY its showing someone up when you hit a HR and why it isn't when you dance after scoring a TD...

Baseball is a 1 on 1 sport most of the time. Pitcher v. Hitter. If you hit a HR, you've basically let everyone know "I beat you, personally." Dancing around the bases, that's not showing up the team, that's showing up one person. Milton Bradley and Nick Swisher used to dance in the dugout, AFTER the HR was hit. Was that bad sportsmanship? Never once was it called that, in fact, it was shown on ESPN to death.

In football, there isn't a 1 on 1. WR go up against cornerbacks, safeties, linebackers, zone coverage... not only that, the WR is only a fraction of the equation. The line has to block, there are decoys, and the QB gets him the ball. Some of the most memorable and funny things in recent sports came at the hands of Terrell Owens and Chad Johnson, because they were creative and entertaining. People who get offended by that kind of stuff are a product of an oversensitive generation...

There is zero comparsion between football and baseball in that aspect...

baseball is just a weird sport is all, its been around so long they have all these unspoken rules and traditions that guys made up to make themselves feel special. Its kinda like the stonecutters
