What happenned to LJ and LT?

Post#1 » by J-Mezzy » Sun Sep 23, 2007 9:58 pm

They are having horrendous seasons in comparisson to what they have shown capable of doing. They barely broke the 100 yard mark today combined :o .

I haven't been able to watch the games since I work on Sundays, but any logical explanation to their sudden decline?

LJ's struggles were predictable because of his ridiculous amount of carries last year (you can read up here about the Curse of 370). Losing Will Shields off of the O-line doesn't help, either.

In LdT's case, the problem is a little less clear. I chalked up his performance against the Pats' to the defense doing an effective job against him, but it's a little odd that he hasn't come around at all yet.

EDIT: Whoops, thanks for catching that, studcrackers.

Teams are just putting 8 men up front and blitzing the LB's to stop the running game.

The Chiefs are a horrible team with no passing game to speak of, so teams just stop the running game.

From what I saw in today's game for the Chargers, the packers were mostly playing run D a lot on the Chargers and I was really surprised to see no play action (I don't think they called even one). The Packers expected the run on 1st and 2nd down so they blitzed a lot.

Rivers played extremely well today though, except for the last throw.

Well LJs holdout (game shape),combined with losing Will Shields (their second HOF caliber lineman to have retired in 2 seasons), the curse of 370, playing against some of the top rushing defenses in the NFL and the team not being that good in general should explain that.

LDT, Norv Turner as a head coach is poison, also, hes played three of the top rushing defenses in the NFL as well.

LJ: Weakened O-Line, excessive carries.

LDT: Karma.

LJ's problems were known by just about everyone who reads FO.

I'm actually surprised that he hasn't blown out a knee yet or something...

As for LdT, I'm taking a stab in the dark here but I'm going to say excessive touches over the span of his career.

He hasn't had a single season where he had less than 390 touches in the past 6 seasons. It may be taking a toll on his body now, perhaps...

On top of his carries, receiving's also been a big part of LdT's game... he's caught at least 50 balls every year of his career. Getting tackled out in the open obviously isn't the same as running into mobs of defenders, but i'm sure it adds to the toll.

Of course, we're still only talking about 3 games this season, all against good defenses, so i'm not ready to pronounce him dead yet.

LDT's problem seems to be the lack of an effective passing threat other than Gates. There's nobody to prevent teams from stacking the box.

Norv Turner happened to Tomlinson. I said it before, I'll say it again, Norv Turner is one of the worst head coaches I have ever seen.

I'm not surprised by whats happening to the Chargers. You don't hire a bum like Norval. Hes the reason the Skins sucked for a decade. Worst game day coach ever.

Uhhh...

Chicago, New England, Green Bay.

Three of the best front sevens in the NFL. LDT just had the misfortune of opening against all three of them.

LdT's O-linemen have really detoriated... not even playing close to what they did last year.
