Griese isn't going to be the Bears savior, but he isn't going to turn the ball over 3 times a game and complete barely over 50% of his passes.

I find it funny how it didn't even take 48 hours for Lovie Smith to go against everything he said in his presser after Sunday night's game.

I wonder if Griese gets hurt does Rex come in or do they go to Orton. I guess Grossman's contract is up after this year so i doubt he would be back. He may have played his last game there.

Chicago is a very average team this year. Too many key injuries on defense combined with an offense that lacks a true play maker, I just don't see how they can repeat what they did last year until their defense is 100% healthy by the time playoffs come (if they even make it).

I agree, they have to get some defenders healthy and get Greg Olsen on the field. If Griese pans out and they can get some wins they might get a playoff birth but they dont look good. Good news it's the NFC.

I have to agree.

The offense looks terrible. Benson isn't doing well to start the season and this year the passing game isn't there to cover it up. The offensive line is average at best and the receivers are dropping catches. Then on defense you have Brown and Dvoracek out for the season, Harris out up to 4 weeks, and several others who are banged up.

Took Lovie this long to make a move? Anyway, at least it's a start. They should've signed Leftwich when they had the chance.

as a packer fan news of either quarterback starting is very good to me..... Grossman is obviously one of the biggest turnover machine at QB in the NFL and the offense is not good with him in the game, Griese is not going to save this team. So either way the Bears offense is going to flounder and Green Bay going to win the North. thats what i'm talking about.

Green Bay is a team that isn't that good. Every year some team gets an early good start in their season and then comes back to reality. GB is that team.

Packers should win the division this season. i dont see any other team in NFC north more in synch. unless griese become jeff garcia part II.

Yeah, too bad that's not likely to happen. This team may not truly be "for real" but they're damn close. Offensively, they have a good young line and two good receivers in Donald Driver and Greg Jennings. Defensively, my God: Cullen Jenkins. Aaron Kampman. Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila. AJ Hawk. Nick Barnett. Al Harris. A motivated Charles Woodson.

Green Bay is a contender until proven otherwise.

You just might be underrating the impact of having a guy that probably won't turn the ball over 3 times a game at QB.

i must also be underrating the fact that he's been to 3 different teams and hasn't really won for any team he has started for. After a few games he seems to always gets benched. I wouldn't want this guy starting for my team and the bears will realize they still made a mistake. He has some talent, but he is nothing more than an average backup. It's all cause of his name that he has been given all these chances.

In the original post I did say he wasn't going to turn this team around... but I did say that he could do just enough to help the Bears immensely.

2005: With him: 5-1 Without him: 6-4. He was benched after an injury, and it wasn't such a big deal since they wanted to look towards the future with Chris Simms.

2004: with him: 5-6 without him: 0-5. Started the season with Chris Simms, he got injured, and they played with Griese the rest of the way.

2003: I think he was benched. I don't know for sure, though.

2002: with him: 8-5 without him: 1-2. He started most of the season.

In 2001: 8-8. Started most of the season.

In 2000: 11-5 (7-3 with him, 4-2 without him). He started most of the season. I think he started on the bench, started, had a minor injury, and came back to end the season. He was playing great this year, he wouldn't be benched. He actually made the pro bowl this year.

In 2004, the last time he played close to a full season (11 games) He threw 20 TDs and 12 interceptions, and completed 69.3% of his passes. He threw at least one TD in every game he played and completed at least 59.1% of his passes in every game he played. His lowest rating for a game was 69.9 that season... a lot higher then Grossman's highest this season, and something he's been under 6 times last season.

Griese isn't an elite QB, but his QB rating is top 20 all-time. He's accurate and makes good decisions. I fully expect his replacing Grossman to make a huge impact, considering how god-awful Rex has been.
