Trent Green vs. Travis Johnson

I'm curious as to what y'all think about that play. I've heard a lot of back and forth, but it seems to break down like this:

Anyone who ever played as a lineman thinks Green got what he deserved for an illegal crackback block that could have just as easily ended Johnson's career

Most people who never played (Greenberg a prime example) think Green was the victim of a brutal accident and Johnson should be suspended or fined for his cold reaction

Most people seem to think Johnson is a complete poopyhead for not apologizing after the game for knocking Green out

My personal opinion:
I've seen many players get fined for less egregious blocks than the one Green threw on that play. I've seen two careers ended on exactly that play (Corey Moore and Jason Layman) that I can recall. Green is a veteran who knows better, and for a guy with his concussion history he's a freaking idiot for leading with his head. I don't want to say he got what he deserves, but at minimum he should have been flagged for 15 yards and fined. You pull that bush-league crap in HS games and you get ejected here in MI.

I do think Johnson should have stopped barking after the game though, classless.

On the field, I agree with Johnson. If Green did the same thing to me, I probably would have reacted in a similar manner.

After the game, Johnson took it too far. But you have to see his point of view, Green threw a malicious block. Its not his fault that Green ended up on a stretcher. He did apologize after a while for the comments though.

He shouldn't be fined. Trent Green is just flat out stupid.

Hardly looked like a malicious block to me, dont even think it was illegal was it? Defensive lineman dont like being taken down by QBs, if that guy is getting hit by Ray Lewis he isnt saying squat.

Weather the intent was malicious or not, who knows. The block definetly was. Any tackle or attack around that knee area is career threatening.

Greens stupidity most likeley ended his own career and might have done the same to Johnsons.

I thought it was pretty gay how he stood over a motionless Trent Green yelling after the play.

That was stupid of Travis Johnson.

But it was also stupid of Trent Green to do that, considering his history of concussions, and considering how those types of blocks tend to lead to nasty injuries.

I believe TJ was in the wrong when he stepped over him in a Jack Tatum-esque type of way. But, the things he said afterwards put him back in the clear, IMO.

Dirty play by Trent Green on that play.

Is Travis Johnson a complete bust? I haven't heard his name since he got drafted a few years back.

Anyways, Green is a vet like mentioned and KNOWS better.

Although I couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous Travis Johnson looked.

I've always thought that if there were going to be special rules to protect the quarterback, there should also be rules to prevent the quarterback from blocking. I remember seeing Favre leading on reverses more than once, it never looked like a good thing for anyone involved.

i dont think i've ever seen a qb make a high block on those type of plays, they always seem to try for those type of block around the legs and knees.

this was mostly trent green's fault. with his concussion injury last season and the age he suffered it at he had to know better that he is more vulnerable to another concussion. he also should not have thrown himself at someone who out weighs him by at least 100 pounds. And what Johnson did was a little immature, but if somebody had gone at my knees there is a possibility of a season ending or career ending injury and i would have reacted the same way.

Both were wrong, Green for th cheap shot. Johnson for taunting him, and for saying what he said after the game. Totally classless.

But, I do think issue should be made, about how the league protects QB's, and defensive players have to find for themselves.

If a defensive player pulled that crap on Green, he'd be fined for sure. Kicked out of the game as well.

Helmet to knee is cheap no matter who does it.

I've never played QB on any level, I played Defense, and receiver, but I never did like the QB protecting rules.

If you wanna throw blocks, then you should get hit back.

I didn't mind when he was yelling on the field, cuz I doubt he realized the severity of the injury, but after was a bit much...

How was it illegal? He hit him from the front and it was behind the line of scrimmage. It was a legal block.

It's not as if Green intentionally speared Johnson's knee. Green is guilty of poor technique, not of being cheap.

Green or Cam Cameron is an idiot... putting in a concussion prone player to block? Coming up next week, a lot of fly patterns to their WR fresh off ACL surgery...

Johnson was an idiot as well... a virtual who's who of idiots. No one comes out looking good.

Ted Ginn reversed his field, it wasn't a play call.

Both are idiots. The good thing is that neither really got that hurt. I heard green was fine and feels like nothing happened.
