Patriots running up the score issue

Post#1 » by jumanji » Tue Oct 30, 2007 12:07 am

Seems like a recurring theme every week. My take is if they are it's coming from the coaches. If the coaching staff wants to pull back on the throttle then they take the Stars(Brady, Moss etc) off the field. Dont blame the players such as Cassell, who is fighting for his NFL life or a Stallworth or a Welker who are tring to make their bones, blame the coaches.

If the Redskins were all that upset they could have gone after the QB or the receivers and taken a late hit, they treated them like they were Royalty, i thought some of them were going to start asking for autographs. The Skins did all their talking in the lockerroom after the game.

I could care less.

This is the Pros. If it were College, I would say something about it since difference in the levels of talent is significant, and the Players are not playing for money or endorsement; they're playing for pride in their schools (okay, and partially about the money and endorsements, but mostly about the pride for their schools).
If you feel disrespected, play better, and don't get blown out.

I hate how the media is overplaying all of this. Just ignore it and I'm sure the Patriots will stop doing it. It's almost as if the Patriots are taking this "running up the score" as a slight, and running up the score even further.

If you can't stop Matt Cassel from scoring a touchdown, you shouldn't be crying foul.

I cared less. The Patriots can do whatever they want as long as it is within rules. There taking a risk as it might piss off the angry defenders of the NFL.

Regardless of them running the score up or not, they handed our ass to us. Some of our players should be crying about bad execution rather than getting dominated.

Good, I hate teams who run half back dive once the game is out of reach, keep attacking baby, put them to shame.

I won't be happy until the Pats score 100 points in a game and even then I'll be pissed that they didn't go for the field goal with 4 seconds left.

This is awesome: it's like the real-life football version of Kill Bill, except it's Bill that's doing all the revenge killing.

One of these weeks an opposing player is going to cheap shot Brady and Patriot fans will be crying foul and justifiably so but people are going to counter with, "Why was your star QB in the game when you were up by 36 in the 4th Quarter?"

And no one will be able to give a logical answer.

Either way it's not Belichick's job to control the score of the game, it's the opposing Defensive Coordinator.

On a side note did you see how pissed Brady was after one his linemen received a false start penalty when they were up 40something?

They're playing pissed and they're totally going undefeated this season if they decide to play Brady down the stretch.

There is a HUGE difference between running up the score, and getting a dirty hit on a guy. Running up the score hurts you emotionally (everyone in the NFL is a big boy, this shouldnt matter), while a dirty hit can ruin a guy's career. I think most NFL players understand that there is a difference, and I feel that very few players literally go out with the intent to injure. Guys in the NFL love hitting a player hard when they have the chance, but you rarely see a guy intentionally go low in order to blow out a knee just because he can. Although I think opponents are going to start trying to be alot more physical with the Pats, I dont think anyone is going to dive at Brady's knees 5 seconds after the release either.

I won't lie, I'd enjoy it if my team was running up the score. At the same time alienating your peers has a way of coming back at biting you in the ass.

Just like it can bite you in the ass when you take part in the same video taping tactics. Yet act like the Patriots are the only one doing it.

The patriots are running up the score as the proverbial **** you to the rest of the league for crucifying the pats. When they arent the only ones who have taken part in the same practice.

I have no idea whether other teams have done same thing (and neither do you), all I know is that the Patriots are the only ones that got caught. It doesn't matter if he had justification (he doesn't), pissing off everyone around you is a good way to get burned.

I have heard different people state that other people do the same thing. Notably Jimmy Johnson on CBS's pregame show.

I could care less about pissing people off and obviously the Patriots dont care either. If other teams dont like it. Try and stop them. Their's no crying in football.

I heard Dan Marino and Bill Cowher say that they and other teams around the league video tape signals during the pre-game show on CBS during week 3, but everyone seems to have barely paid any attention to that.

Same goes for Tiki Barber on the Week 3 pre-game show on NBC Sunday Night Football.

Did anyone else do it after Goodell sent out a memo specifically telling them not to do it? They got caught doing the same thing last season and got a warning. There's no excuse.

I don't know whether they did it before or after. I'm just addressing this point that you made:

I have no idea whether other teams have done same thing (and neither do you),

Which is false, after seeing Cowher, Marino and Barber say that it happens in the NFL.
