The Forgotten Rookies
With the success of the likes of Adrian Peterson, Patrick Willis and Joe Thomas it seems like there are a bunch of names that are forgotten.
- Dwayne Bowe
Tied with James Jones for most receptions, but most importantly is averaging a 17.2 yards a catch. He has brought back the big play threat they have been seeking.
- Amobi Okoye
He has 24 tackles on the season and five sacks. It is pretty impressive considering he has been facing double teams all year long. Lets not forget he is only 20.
- Steve Breaston
With a draft that featured two elite returners in Ginn Jr and Figurs, it has been Breaston that has been impressive on both the kick and punt returns.
- David Harris
Has only started two games this year registering 17 and 24 tackles in those games respectively. I wont be surprised if he catches Willis for the overall lead in the league.
Questionable Rookie Thus Far
- Jamaal Anderson
Eight games started and yet still no sack. He only has 16 tackles on the season, I have to think the Falcons wanted more then this.
Who else has been disappointing and surprising...

LaRon Landry has more tackles and sacks than any safety in the league yet the Redskins have arguably the stingiest pass defense in the NFL. Hes also made two game winning plays (big fourth down hit on Kevin Curtis and INT in the endzone against Cards to seal the game) and had a huge fumble recovery last weekend to set up the lead taking TD for the Skins. Epitome of a strong safety.
Landry is Rodney Harrison but younger and more athletic.
Thanks LSU

What Okoye has done thus far is amazing. I had my doubts on him before the draft, but he's been sensational.
I'm not exactly surprised with Anderson, however. He was the other D-Lineman I doubted before the draft. He lined up over the RT the vast majority of his time at Arkansas, avoiding bookend left tackles. When matched up against Joe Thomas in the Capital One, Thomas owned him. But when Anderson moved back to the left side he had a field day.

He's not much of a finesse guy but he has that ability to stay on his feet after getting hit just like Marion Barber. Fourth in the league in rushing yards and doesn't have a fumble yet.
He was my preseason pick for OROY I think...
And if it wasn't for Adrian Peterson he'd be getting all the press right now. That run where he got hit twice near the LOS, shook it off and ran to the end zone was phenomenal.

Okoye had like 4 sacks in the first two games didn't he? Since then he's just had 1?
I have Landry as defensive rookie of the year, especially if the Redskins finish with a better record and/or make the playoffs.
The rookie linebacker the Jets drafted, Harris I think had like 24 tackles on Sunday.

Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

Nice thread!
Two guys I must mention:
Joe Thomas. The guy has been an absolute monster at LT ever since the 2nd half of the PIT debacle in the opener. He has not allowed a QB hurry in 3 of the last 4 games. Jamal Lewis scored 3 TDs following in his wake last week. He is well on his way to becoming a Pro Bowl fixture.
Tony Ugoh. Not as physical or dominant as Thomas, but the guy has basically been plug and play in replacing a pretty good Tarik Glenn.

JJ!!
I am going to go with James Jones.
drafted in the 3rd round and coming from a small school(San Jose State) he was not expected to contribute this quickly, but has put up great numbers.
29 catches, 432 yards, 2 touchdowns
Brett has developed great chemistry with this rookie and he seems to only get better and better every week. He does not get much coverage(outside of Green Bay and the fans of the Packers who know about him) but he is having one of the best seasons of any rookie on the offensive side of the ball this year. His future looks very bright if he can stay healthy.

I gotta give James Jones an honorable mention....If it wasnt the terrible game he had against the CHI, he would be having a superb year.
The guy has hands similar to glue traps as far as catcching the ball, althogh he has shown trouble holding on to the ball after the catch. I really think he has the skills to be a great reciever for many moons to come.
As for the Defensive side...I really like Landry and Harris has been very impressive in his minimal starts.

Rookie OL for the win. Ben Grubbs starts for the Ravens and several teams have rookies starting or having seen significant time.

????
He has 1.5 sacks. I know Roman Harper has 2 sacks off the top of my head.

Sidney Rice
He hasnt really been consistent but has showed alot of promise. Also consider his QBs have been Tavaris, Kelly Holcomb and Brooks Bollinger. Yes he plays with Adrian so that might help him some but still looks to be pretty good.
Chris Henry
Hasnt played much since hes been behind Lendale and Chris Brown but has had some nice plays when hes been in there. The suspension isnt good but it sounds like it was for some cold medicine or something.
Zach Miller
Hasnt done alot but again the QB situation sort of sucks. But most impressive is he is on the roster after being drafted by the raiders
As for Landry his alot of assists but solos hes around 5th among rookie DBs

So much for everyone touting Chris Henry as a bust. He's starting to look like something special in our offense. He just runs hard and makes quick decisions.
