NFL Network Announce Team (Gumbel)

Post#1 » by SMRattler » Fri Nov 30, 2007 7:46 pm

I got tired of complaining just in the Cowboys game thread. I think this will be a problem if this Collinsworth/Gumbel team is THE team for NFL Network.

Is this a problem we will see throughout the games on NFL Net? If so, I'm passing on it.

From the moment the coverage started, the soft Gumbel voice sets the mood: BOOOOOORING!!!!!!

Gumbel called the Cowboys "The Packers" from the moment the offense took the field after a kick off return. He called them "The Packers" three more times, on a FGA "The Packers will settle for a FGA...". It was driving me nuts. Come on, seriously? Are you reading something or watching? How can he get that wrong so many times? I can forgive the half dozen times he said the wrong name of a Cowboys player, and probably the Packers players too (I probably missed those), but the team? 3 or 4 times like that??? Is that lack of concentration? Or does he really not know either team?

And just as the gun sounded and I'm celebrating and about to change to ESPN News for the postgame stuff, Gumbel, who has been calling the WHOLE game, with our QB lighting it up as he has all year and the name on the tip of everyone's tongue... Gumbel says they will try to get an interview with "Rick Romo". WTF??????? Maybe this was an attempt to keep the audience around a little more, because I had to rewind and replay that a couple of times, I just couldn't believe my ears.

That was annoying as hell, but the worst part about Gumbel for me was his steady, low talking voice. On the radio this morning someone had sent in an email saying it sounded like he was reading one of those well prepared segways from "Real Sports" or whatever his show is called. No emotion. And the volume of the crowd was so low, I guess because they didn't want to drown out his little voice. Awful. Just awful. I felt nothing, no emotion. No excitement.

This was the biggest game of the year for me, the biggest Cowboys game in years. This had fireworks, offense up and down the field, spectacular plays, emotion... it had it all. And I found myself feeling almost bored at times. This is the first game this year I felt this way, so, I know it has something to do with this announce team.

He was horrible last year as well.

Someone needs to pound his cranium in with a blunt object.

^ Yup, Gumbel basically called a Packers versus Packers game with an up and coming Packer QB of the future named Rick Romo.

I'm not mad at Collinsworth, but Gumbel is horrible! His bitch voice is way to soft to be broadcasting NFL games. It is just way too out of place. They should try to get Sean McDonough or somebody.

I was waiting for him at the end to say, "Packers 37, Cowboys 27, Rick Romo with a great game for the Green Bay Packers."

He just doesn't have a voice for football. Maybe he should try golf.
