AP - Brett Favre's standout season for the resurgent Packers has earned him the title of 2007 Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year, making him the fourth quarterback to win the award in its 53-year history.
The 38-year-old Favre joins fellow quarterbacks Terry Bradshaw (1979), Joe Montana (1990) and Tom Brady (2005) as recipients of the award, given to an athlete who symbolizes the ideals of sportsmanship

Sure he does. Hell who doesnt rank becoming a pill addict just to continue playing as a top ideal? I know I do. All kids should aspire to do so.

Doesn't this go to players who won a Championship this past season?

Shhh. Shush you, or Chris Berman and John Madden will come out to hunt you down for spreading 'false' propoganda. They're like those damned Freemasons, controlling the economy.

I'm not hating on Favre but I think Peyton or Brady deserve it more than him.
Manning has a Super Bowl ring this year.

"sportsmanship" my ass, those are all of players who are having great seasons and that's it. Why didn't Favre win it during his MVP year?

Wow, U are pulling at straws now, that was 10 years ago and he actually owned up to it and admitted having a problem and seeked help.
That might be one of the most ignorant stupid statements I have ever read, than again you are usually good for at least 2-3 ignaramus statements a week.

# Rings for Trent Dilfer: 1
# Rings for Brett Favre: 1
Now, obviously I'm not saying Trent Dilfer is Brett Favre's equal. All I'm saying is that Favre is potentially one of the most overrated players in NFL history.
Sportsmen of the year in 2007? I guess that award has lost all meaning.

So you become overrated by breaking all the records?
#1 all time TD's
#1 all time wins
Consecutive starts
3 time consecutive MVP.
I guess that all doesn't count for anything.
Yet another ignaramus comment.

The only explanation for Favre's resurgence is a deal with the devil. I don't think he'll be winning any sportsmanship awards when he's going around eating babies to fulfill his end of the bargain.

Attempts, Completions, TDs, Wins, Consecutive starts at QB. Three MVPs and a Super Bowl trophy.
And now, at age 38, he's having maybe his best season ever. You can't overrate that.

Please, if he wasnt on your team you wouldnt be praising the guy. Case in point, Michael Irvin. He owned up to it, got clean and now helps others that have those problems, yet all you cheeseheads still act like hes some pathetic drug addict getting his fix everyday.
You cant have it both ways, and at least I have sense enough to seperate the offfield issues from onfield talent. I still think Brett is a great player and dont think hes any less of a player because of the issues. I simply dont see someone that nearly killed himself drunk driving in college, and who became a pill addict as a Role Model or someone to look up to. But maybe thats just me, maybe most people dont mind those things in a Role Model or someone to look up to.
