A year later, was Mario Wiliams the right # 1 pick?

Post#1 » by DaGoodz » Mon Dec 10, 2007 3:56 pm

I think its clear as day right now that the Texans Management was smarter than a lot of people gave them credit for. Mario Williams has 9.5 sacks right now and is causing havoc looking like a franchise DE.
While Reggie Bush and Vince Young are both struggling right now and there are a lot of questions bout their future and don't look like franchise picks.

It was as right then as it is now. I

Let's give it one more year before we come to a conclusion.

Rookies = 3 Years to pan out.

But, yes, I think the Texans made a good pick back then, and I still think it's a good pick now.

It appears that it was. I thought Bush would be an impact runner in the NFL and that hasn't been the case.

I'm a firm believer of defense first! I told many people they made a very good decision, but they choose to look past the marketing side of things, and that's about the only mistake they made.

WRONG!

the first choice always goes to ...QB!

they made a mistake, because QB is always the first choice.

the team falls and rises with the play of the QB. the QB is the focal point. the QB is the franchise. and when the QB comes from houston, he sells tickets.

lol no. Reggie Bush , Vince Young, Matt Lineart will be stars in this league . Even if Williams averages 12 sacks a year I still would not take him over those three guys.

Matt Lineart a Star in the League...that's a joke right.
Reggie Bush will only be a star in the media and jersey sales not on the field.
VY the Jury is still out on him.

Well they traded for a QB in Matt Schaub(SP?) the year after. You don't draft a QB just to sell tickets, you draft a QB to win games. I don't think Vince Young or Matt Lineart will be better than Matt Schaub. They both played close to being benched this year, well Lineart was benched temporarily.

Yeah, I am going to have to disagree with your here. I believe that building a good football team starts up front in the trenches; basically building your team from the inside out. Having a great O-line makes everyone's life easier, just put Brady behind Miami's line and watch what happens.

As mentioned, build from the trenches. Solid veteran QBs can be found on the free agent market but a good pass-rushing DE is (nearly) priceless.

Nah,
First they should have lured Pete Carroll, then they should have picked Reggie Bush.
Then they should have traded Andre Johnson for Norm Chow. Then proceed to pick LenDale White in the 2nd round.

No one thinks a team with an offensive line made out of swiss cheese should have at least considered D'Brickashaw Ferguson?

Maybe I'm hearing wrong but, indications seem to be that D'Brickashaw is dissapointing in New York right now.
