NEW YORK (AP) -- The New England Patriots' shot at history Saturday night will be available to every television viewer in the country after months of wrangling.
Their game against the New York Giants, in which the Patriots could become the first NFL team to go 16-0 in the regular season, was originally scheduled to be shown only on the NFL Network. Fewer than 40 percent of the nation's homes with TVs receive the channel.
The league announced Wednesday that the NFL Network feed will be simulcast on NBC and CBS. It's a major concession by league officials, who repeatedly said they would not show the game anywhere but the NFL Network. The NFL had faced mounting pressure from lawmakers in recent weeks to make the game available to more viewers.

No ****. They are probably going to go 16-0 and have an exciting team. Of course the league is going to ride them.
Nobody denies the historic importance of this game. But the issue here is that this opens a Pandora's box. Now cable companies won't include the NFL Network because they sold out like this. That and the NFL was willing to make an exception for them but not for the fans all over the country that watch the Steelers, Rams, Colts, Falcons, Bengals, Niners etc and were told they were out of luck?
It just screams blatant favortism here and if you don't understand why people are resentful over this I don't know what to say.

With the writers strike, it would make sense that CBS and NBC are much more desperate for content than they were even just a few weeks ago. I wonder if that has some part in this.
I don't think this is favoritism. I also think this has a lot less to do with "history" than you all seem to believe. To me, this is about $$$.

exactly, if this game had taken place when they were 12-0, the NFL wouldn't be doing this.

Are you thick or just ignorant. They play favoritsm because the PAtriots are about to make history. I'm sure if the Steelers, Rams, Colts, Falcons, Bengals and Niners were abotu to make the same history they'd do the same.

Ummm, yeah, you couldn't be more wrong. The people who wanted to see that game got to see it, it was shown locally in the team's markets. This game means something in the history of the sport, not just this season.
But I don't expect to convince you, because whatever you say is final and alllllllllways right.

Given that two of the largest media markets were already going to see this game on local broadcast and that the NFL has been under fire from Congress regarding the whole NFL Network issue, it was a no-brainer PR move to allow national broadcast of a game with such historical significance. It has nothing to do with the Patriots: the NFL would have done the same thing to save face if any other team was in the Patriots' situation.
