Chris Mortensen has broken the news on ESPN, that Cam Cameron's tenure as head coach of the Miami Dolphins is over.

This coming a day after the Dolphins hired Jeff Ireland as their new GM and about 2 weeks after Bill Parcells was hired as the team's new VP of Football Operations.


My opinion on this decision is that Cameron deserved this firing. Living in South Florida, I have been constantly reading the articles on the struggles of the Dolphins this year, due to countless injuries to many first-string players.

Many people may use the injury woes as the reason for the dismal 1-15 season, but I believe Cameron is completely at fault for his team's fall into the basement.

When players get hurt, its a coach's job to round up his guys and make them play harder (even the second and third stringers), Cameron failed to do that. He never got the complete support of his players, even the franchise's 2 cornerstones, Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas.

I wholeheartedly believe that Cameron does not deserve a second chance a head coach, maybe as a coordinator, but never again as a head coach in the NFL.

NOT by a long shot, my friend. Living in So. Florida you should very well know that the lack of drafting well has put this team in the bundle it is at the moment. Cameron came LAST season, not in 2000/2001 where this drafting issues started.....

You can't coach a team w/o players. Period

Thats my problem with Cam Cameron, you coach with what you've got, and he really didn't do that. One win in a 16 game season is completely inexcusable, IMO.

And, he had a chance to start off on the right foot, draft-wise. Brady Quinn fell to them and they ended up taking Ted Ginn. You can tell me that isn't Cam Cameron's fault at the slightest?

That was my original point. He didn't have the players to begin with. Hell this team hasn't had 'players' since 2000/2001. This team has drafted VERY bad since.....

PLENTY of teams passed on Quinn, not only Miami. And when the reports came out Edwards and Beck were rated higher than Quinn, fwiw.

Dolphins were set on Beck, which is why they took Ginn. Quinn is so overrated, and the last thing this team needs.

Cam never really acclimated himself to the job, I think that was the problem more than anything else. Whenever I heard someone say his name I was like "huh? Indiana is playing?"

Dolphins are in full-on rebuilding mode, and they need a better engineer. Get as much as you can for the aging talent, stockpile draft picks, rinse, repeat. O/D lines need to be completely re-worked. Probably 3-4 years away from even sniffing playoffs.

I'm definately not a Brady Quinn supporter, but what I am trying to say is, if the Dolphins would have drafted him, they may not have been so horrible.

^O-Line is looking much better than it did at the beginning of the season last year...... They still need a STUD LT to solidify that line, but they can be pretty decent without one.....

I never like to see a coach fired one season into his tenure, but this was expected. Parcells will bring his own guy in.

well its about freakin time.

With a makeover in management already combined with a terrible season, I would've been suprised if he stayed. He'll be back as a OC next season for someone. Rumor is Bobby Petrino is the leading candidate for the HC job in Miami now.

qft. browns are about to make a pretty big mistake by trading Anderson.

I don't believe Cameron deserved to be fired. They were in a lot of games they lost. That's just not a very good team.

And I see Brady Quinn having a Joey Harrington type career.

I was talking more about what the Dolphins need.

At least Quinn gives the team some identity, a recognizable player to build around. He'd definitely bring more fans in than Ted Ginn. Obviously he wasn't going to carry the team with how terrible they are, but he probably would've won them a couple of the close games they dropped. Ginn's effect on the games this year were minimal at best, and I doubt anyone here thinks he'll ever be a superstar. Devin Hester becomes a return God, and now teams are vastly overrating players like Ginn and DeSean Jackson, when they'll likely enver approach his impact.

And John Beck sucks. Seriously. The guy will be 27 at the start of next season and he's nowhere near competent. The Dolphins having him rated higher than Quinn just illustrates their incompetence and why Parcells is cleaning house. They've been by far the worst drafting team lately, so their opinion doesn't mean much to me. Jason Taylor was practically begging them to draft Quinn, I would've tried to keep him as happy as possible.
