Gumball Helmets

Post#1 » by Da Schwab » Wed Jan 16, 2008 11:25 pm

I used to love these things.

I stumbled upon this 'Uni Watch' article while browsing ESPN.com, and couldn't help but reminisce. Now, I'm only 17, but I remember begging my mom for a couple of quarters every time we'd pass these leaving the local supermarket.

I wish I could find my old collection, because I know I didn't toss them.

Anyone else collect these as a kiddie?

Oh man, they still make those things?

I remember there used to be this machine outside of Market Basket that always had one good helmet (usually the Niners or Broncos) surrounded by 30-40 Saints and Bengals helmets. I think I spent $70 of my mom's money just trying to collect them all.

Sadly I never came across football helmets and instead they only had the ones with baseball helmets (which were nice in their own right).

I found some of my old ones on the top shelf of my closet with some of my football cards, and just from that box I have 30 (no Texans or Jaguars).

And, the first card on the first stack I looked at was a Peyton Manning rookie card.

I looked them up on google and I see you can buy entire sets. Thing is that they're usually close to a $100 for entire sets.
