that vikings defense could be scary if allen goes there, they've lacked an outside pass rusher for a while

the chiefs will get at least a 1st rounder, some claim he's the best pass rusher in the game i saw a stat saying he led the league with 7.5 one on one sacks and used about 6 different moves to get sacks

The Vikings Defensive Line would be so nasty if this went down.

The two Williams plus the best pass rusher in the NFL is simply not fair.

You forgot the best RB also, a weak NFC north too.

When did everyone hop on this "best pass rusher in the NFL" bandwagon?

Allen and Kevin Williams in pass rush situations? Yikes.

He did lead the league in sacks despite missing two games for his DUI suspension, so technically he has earned that title. And he is the kind of guy who will make whomever drafts Jeff Otah real sorry.

Two perspectives on this:

1. For KC this is a very significant move. It means they are committed to a complete rebuild and they aren't worried about being the worst team in the league next year, which they very well might be. It also means they weren't able to reach terms with Allen or never really had any intention of shelling out what he wants long-term. The numbers being bantered about at PFW and on Sirius NFL Radio are 6yrs/$55M with at least $22M guaranteed. Getting a 1st and a 2nd (that's the consensus opinion on the price, IDK if that's accurate) plus their own 1st this year means they could get a solid nucleus to build with Bowe, Hali, and the Johnsons (Derrick more than Larry) and be real good in about 3-4 years. It's a bitter pill for the fans but hey, they weren't likely to win more than 6 games with him this year anyways.

2. Like I said to revprodeji in a PM, I really don't see the Vikings shelling out the cost in both picks and cash, not for a guy coming off a DUI suspension. It's just out of character for them. But if they do, and from the sounds of things it's certainly a growing possibility, that's a real bold move that makes them legit NFC title contenders if Tarvaris Jackson can improve even a little. Consider that Allen has racked up loads of sacks despite having relative crap at DT, and now he'll get to play next to Kevin Williams, perhaps the best all-around DT in the league. That means Allen will get iso on a T or the offense commits a TE to help out and that allows the SS to help easier over the top and make more plays on the ball. I'll still believe it when I see it, but IMO Allen would make the Vikings the prohibitive NFC North favorite.

From what I am hearing it is a done deal. Also, the original offer of a 1st this year, and a second next year was turned into a 1st this year and a 3rd this year. Just what I am hearing. The deal is pretty much done they are just figuring out the details. As I said in the vikes thread Allen has been in MN since last night with his GF and he had supper with some players (Hutch) and the coach and currently he is at winter park with his agent and Rob B. though the vikes are giving up a 1st this year there wont be a pass rusher around at there pick that'll be as good as allen, great deal for them if it happens

That is the logic as well. Ironically there was talks about using one of the 3rd rd picks to move up in the first. maybe targeting Harvey, but if we can get Allen for the same package. WOW>

I just got home from a wedding, but I have a ton of emails on this. If I read anything of interest I will post it tommorow.

There's word coming out that the Vikings have now increased their offer to:

2008 1st rounder
2008 3rd rounder
2009 2nd rounder

The Vikings really want to get this deal, but the Chiefs are holding out for a 2008 2nd rounder. There was also some talk that Mckinnie would've been included in the deal by the Vikings.

I can understand the Chiefs holding out for a little more as they would be shipping out one of the best DE's in the league, one who is also very young (26). Great pass-rushers don't grow on trees, so its vital that you maximize the value if you are to trade Jared Allen.

It wouldn't surprise me to see the Chiefs sign off on the deal I just mentioned if Chris Long falls to them at the Number 5 pick. Long, alongside Hali, Page and Derrick Johnson is a nice core on the defensive side.

When did that happen? I know scout.com is reporting this, but I have yet to hear it from the vikings side. (Not to doubt Mr. Yotter) From what I heard as of yesterday morning (monday) the vikings were either going to get a trade with the 1st and 3rd this year (maybe the other 3rd also) or they were going to wait til post-draft and poison pill an offer sheet. I have not heard any word that the vikings offered the 2nd next year with this 3rd and 1st from this year. Nor have I heard that the Chiefs wanted the future picks. My understanding is that the Chiefs only want picks now.
