According to Profootballtalk.com, "multiple league sources" claim the Rams' selection of DE Chris Long over DT Glenn Dorsey went against the will of the scouts and coaching staff.

The decision to go with Long may have come at the behest of team president John Shaw as the result of connections with Long's father Howie, Long's agent, and Rams' front office chief Billy Devaney. If this story has legs, it would be another case in a long line of dysfunction in the Rams' front office

They have Adam Carriker and while he is no Glenn Dorsey he is a solid starter and there really was no need to draft Dorsey. Chris Long was the most logical pick for them and i think this is just a rumor.

Carriker is more similar to Long than Dorsey though isn't he?

Every team that had a chance to draft Dorsey and didn't is going to be regretting it. Dorsey not only is a great player but he also plays hard every single play and there is not many Defensive line men in the NFL that can say that. Dorsey>>>Long

People also said that Dewayne Robertson would be the greatest D-lineman to ever play the game how did that work out? Dorsey was not a need he can not lineup at the DE position. Rams didn't have the luxury of making a BPA pick they need a DE and thats what they got.

They needed a pass rusher from the outside and they got one.

robertson and dorsey are 2 different scenarios b/c robertson was just a product of hype and the jets fell for it, 2 weeks before the draft robertson was a mid 1st and then just started creeping up higher and higher on boards. dorsey on the other hand was thought highly of all season and considered by many to be the #1 talent on the boards, he will be a steal for the chiefs and is one of many reasons that they had the best draft

I doubt anyone would have said anything even if Dorsey went first overall. However, the Rams need to keep things like this inside the organization and keep them away from the public. I like Long and feel he's going to have a very successful career. I can't say anything bad about him until he steps on the field, but now he has more on his shoulders, because many of the people within the Rams organization obviously don't trust him.
