Cowboys give Owens new 4-year, $34 million deal

Without the controversy that led to his departure from Philadelphia, Terrell Owens quietly received a new contract with the Dallas Cowboys on Monday, team sources told ESPN's Michael Smith.

The wide receiver was slated to earn $7 million this season in the last year of his contract, but he now receives a four-year, $34 million deal. Owens is slated to earn $27 million over the next three seasons, making him -- along with Randy Moss, Javon Walker and Larry Fitzgerald -- one of the highest paid wide receivers in the league.

Owens will receive $12.9 million to sign and $100,000 of his $830,000 2008 base salary guaranteed, for a total of $13 million guaranteed. He is now under contract through 2011.

A little too much for his age?

I think it was a good move. And no it not a little much for his age. He keeps himself in amazing shape and is in even better shape than players younger than him. Jerry Rice had a great workout regimen that allowed him to play into his 40's and I see T.O. playing into his 40's as well because of his workout regimen.

As long as he can avoid any freak injuries his body has plenty of good years left in it. He'll certainly make it through that contract as one of the best WRs in the league.

Even considering that he'd still likely be productive. I mean like it was said before, hes very much like his idol, former teammate, and mentor Jerry Rice. Look what Jerry did after **** up his knee twice (first tore his ACL and MCL, then came back and broke his kneecap), he got over 6,400 more yards and 42 TDs in the 7 seasons he played after that. (And the injury happened when he was 35 which makes it more amazing that he could bounce back from it).

He's gonna play till he's 38? And he's gonna be making 8 mill when he's 38?

He is built like he is 24. So why does it matter?

Being built like youre 24 and having the ability of a 24 year old are completely different.

Good move by Dallas to lock Owens up at this point. I hope he stays healthy and continues his outstanding career. He's still needs to get a ring and Dallas should have a good shot at it within the four year window of Owen's contract.

Going to have to actually win a playoff game for that to happen.

The ability of a 24 year old? His receiving abilities are among one of the best ever, so I don't see what you're getting at here..

Doesn't really rely on TO to make it happen. He needs his teammates and young QB to prove they can win.

He needs Patrick Crayton to learn how to **** catch the easy ones. Double teamed he makes spectacular catches. Wide open and he couldnt catch it if you handed to him.
