after asking permission for a release, the Browns acknowledged his request and just released him. Can't say this is a HUGE surprise as a Browns fan. Fraley played lights out last season at C so there's no way Bentley would start at C there, and we've already got 3 starting caliber RGs in Hadnot, McKinney and Tucker. He wasn't guaranteed a starting job, he probably knew he'd have to beat out 2 guys to do it, and likely not at the position where he ultimately wants to play. Lets just PRAY the Steelers do NOT pick him up!!!

Browns center LeCharles Bentley has asked for his release from the Browns and it has been granted, his agent, Jonathan Feinsod said this afternoon.
Bentley passed his physical Tuesday and practiced with the team that morning on a limited basis.
"But LeCharles doesn't want to be an insurance policy,'' said Feinsod. "He's going to play somewhere in 2008.''
More details to follow shortly.

Wow, after all that?
If hes actually still any good and is fully recovered I'd love to see the Cowboys pick him up.

IMO he was the best C in the league when he played for us, but man, sad to see his career go down so fast.... we do need a C LeCharles... come back...

He is real close to 100% and the parting is not acrimonious in any way. The Browns talked to him about starting the year on the PUP, meaning he would miss the first six weeks, and they also wanted him to take reps with the second team at G. He believes (and I agree with him) that he can compete for a starting C job somewhere else. Even at 90% of his former level he's a decent starter, just a mauling bruiser in there and an intelligent one too.
Haven't heard anything about where he is looking, but he spent a lot of time rehabbing in Arizona and has a home there. Just saying...

Ice, LCB did a lot of local interviews today in the Cleveland area telling his side of the story and why he left. He wasn't clear on a lot of things, but continued to mention that there were lots of things that went on "behind the scenes" that ultimately led to his decision to leave. He kept mentioning how these issues will never make it to the public/media eye and that it is now a part of the past and he will never bring it up. Is it his disappointment with the Browns signings of Hadnot/McKinney at RG ? His disagreements with the Browns FO wanting to take it slow with his return? I'm guessing the PUP idea was probably the ticker that led him to his final decision

He sure made it sound like his beef was solely with GM Phil Savage. He had nothing but kind words for the coaching staff, players, and fans. Its just odd that he would decide to quit on the Browns a day after he was cleared to practice.

He can come and compete for the Bengals' starting C job right away, if he so chooses.
