Plaxico Burress and Jeremy Shockey Situation

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Fri Jun 13, 2008 12:33 am

How long will it last?

"All of a sudden, the Giants' road to defending their title is a little bit rockier. Burress and Shockey created two huge distractions for the defending champs Wednesday when they refused to participate in the first day of a mandatory three-day minicamp. Shockey did show up to the stadium, but refused to come out to the practice field. And while Burress was on the field, he refused to practice because of what he called "a business decision." It turns out that the receiver who caught the game-winning touchdown pass in Super Bowl XLII is unhappy with the progress of negotiations for a new deal."

Honestly, I think the Plax situation will end by the time the preseason rolls around. He deserves a new deal, since he is vastly underpaid compared to the level of low quality receivers who have better deals than him, and I think he'll get it very soon.

On the other hand, the Shockey situation may not go away for a while. He must know he has no leverage against the team, and if he doesn't get moved, this may haunt the team the entire season.

Plax is intriguing because it's really Jerry Reese's first major contract squabble as a GM. The Giants have a history of being firm but fair, and I expect that to continue by them giving him a fat roster bonus or something. I don't think he gets an extension per se, just a nice check or more $$ guaranteed.

randomhero is right about Shockey. Dude proves more every day that he's not worth the headache.
