I'm am SO EXCITED!!

I know the HOF players got inducted yesterday, so is this game played for them or something, what does the HOF have to do with the game (just curious)?

It's gonna be on NBC, so that means Peter King will give the latest on the Favre situation....Manning and Harrison won't play, but it's still SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL!!!

The game is played at Fawcett Stadium in Canton, right next to the HOF. I went to the whole ceremony and game last year. It's a HS stadium for Canton McKinley HS that seats 44,000 and is nicer than most college fields.

Don't expect much from the game at all--pretty much every Colt of note isn't playing.

ICness' guide to watching preseason football:
1. Watch the low-round and free agent rookies. They know they are fighting for their professional lives and inject life and spirit into meaningless games.
2. Watch the chemistry between the first teamers and the backups when they get mixed. Good teams have seamless transitions. Bad teams (watch a Bengals or Jets game) have chaos and enmity between the starters on the field and the 2nd and 3rd stringers interspersed with them. At least that happened last year to both those teams, a very good forecast for the doom and gloom seasons they went thru. It's also how I knew last year the Lions weren't going to be awful and that the Redskins were looking good.
3. On teams with coaching changes, watch how well the OL and DL adjust to the new schemes. Washington will be a good example, so will SF. If you see lots of blown assignments on blocking (OL) or run assignments (DL) by guys who will play during the regular season, the transition is not going well. Keep a real close eye on the SF OL and the WAS defensive front.
4. Know when roster cutdowns are coming and what teams are overloaded at what position. Chances are that when the cutdown from 80 to 65 happens, you'll see a lot of recognizable names change locales via release. The cutdown after that is when the rookies and recent busts (think David Pittman in BAL, Ashton Youboty in BUF) will hit the market.

How do they decide who plays in these games?

Colt Brennan is supposed to get a lot of playing time today. Can't wait to see him in action.

Man, living in Hawaii last year when they beat Boise St. during Thanksgiving weekend and seeing him in the NFL is something.

Nice to see Colt not rolling over after than beating he took 8 months ago. Marcus Howard was the one in particular that made Brennan's Sugar Bowl so miserabe and I think he's out there playing for the Colts. Actually I see he has 1.5 sacks tonight. Good stuff. Wish I remembered this game was on earlier.

He did look good, as did his tormentor Marcus Howard. My Indy spies were right on about him--he's going to make an impact as a pass rusher right away. Very similar to Darryl Tapp in SEA.

What I liked about Brennan was that he looked comfortable, like he felt he belonged. That was notably absent at the Combine. Props to Jim Zorn for getting him this far already.

Question for those that watched--did you get the feeling the Colts yanked Sorgi so quickly because they wanted him to leave on a positive note, or because they didn't want him exposed. Because Quinn Gray looked generally bad and the Hefty Lefty showed why the Giants finally gave up on him. I wonder just how worried the Colts really are about Manning's knee and also Sorgi's ability to fill in.

In 2-3 years, Brennan will be a quality NFL backup. Zorn's working on him getting rid of that side arm throw.

That 7th rounder (i think thats what they said he was) on the Redskins looked impressive. 2 sacks and that onside kick recovery.

That was one of the funniest sacks ive seen, but it was impressive how he did manage to drag Lorenzen down by himself.

And Icness, I think they did that with Sorgi in order to protect him from injury, not exposure. I know hes not very good, but imagine how much worse off theyd be with someone worse than Sorgi AND that doesnt know the system. If for some reason Manning isnt ready, at least they could get by for a game or two with Sorgi, as opposed to if they had to rely on Quinn Gray.

Chris Horton, the 6th round pick, also had a solid game. Iceness...any idea why this guy fell so far? I'm not calling him a superstar but he seems like he could develop into a decent backup, and he can already play special teams.

Hortno did precisely what most scouts expected of him--outstanding speical teams and solid tackling, and he can lay the lumber. He's a little slowish (4.55) and not real fluid in coverage. He went in the expected range, and your assessment is pretty much his ceiling and an accurate one. His special teams play (he blocked 2 punts and forced 3 ST fumbles at UCLA) will earn him a roster spot for years.
