Cincinnati parts ways with Rudi Johnson

In the first major surprise of the day, the Bengals informed halfback Rudi Johnson that his contract has been terminated.

His agent, Peter Schaffer, confirmed that the Bengals notified him that his client will no longer be with the team. Johnson was in the fourth year of a five-year, $20.7 million contract. Hamstring problems bothered him this summer, and injuries have been a concern for the past couple years.

Johnson came to minicamp in incredible shape. He added muscle and lost body fat.

The release of Johnson gives Chris Perry the starting job. He was scheduled to make $3.65 million this season.

NFL.com confirms it:

That is really surprising, I didn't think they would flat out cut him.

daymmm . . . youd figure theyd atleast get SOMETHING for him. even just a bottom of the barrel draft pick, thats nuts. come to the pats Rudi, who needs tight ends anymore, we'll have 6 rb's.

Ill bet a lot of teams wouldn't mind having more RB depth. I was surprised at this also. Rudi was a top back for several seasons before last season. There has to be some kind of situation behind the scenes.

That situation behind the scenes is called "The Brown family is cheap and will not stand for internal criticism".
Rudi might not get claimed because of his salary but he will be on a roster soon thereafter.

They also cut Willie Anderson, which surprises me even more than Rudi. I already knew Rudi wasn't going to be a Bengal this year, but cutting Willie surprises me. That locker room has to be in absolute shambles right now. They're going to be lucky to win 4 games.

If Colvin had anythign left he'd still be in Houston. Or New England for that matter.

I knwo the Bengals were talking to the Bucs about Rudi but I haven't heard anything on that front lately. Denver might be an option. I would assume Houston has to have interest with Chris Brown out for the season.

Willie Anderson should call the Raiders ASAP. They need him more than he needs them. He's just a great leader, great guy, good teacher and mentor. Never let the losing and chaos bring him down.

I remember watching the first preseason game Rosie was in as a member of the Pats, and they were making such a big deal about how the deal went under the radar; that it was huge steal and would put the Pats over the top. Then a few plays later, he blew out his hip, and it was all downhill from there.

Why ruin the youth movement in the Giants' LB corps, by bringing in a guy who was past his prime almost 6 years ago?

he can rush the passer, and that's what we need. if it doesn't work we can cut him, but i think it's worth a shot

Maybe if we get desperate, due to further injuries or bad play, but not now.

Huh? It was a regular season game against the eagles. He was attempting to recover a fumble when someone landed on him, something like that... And he was out for that whole year, yes, but he had some great seasons with us after that.

I don't know, you were right about the hip though. Rosey hurt his hip early on, he just wasn't a bust for the rest of his tenure though.

Didn't feel this merited its own thread, but according to the Globe, chad jackson has been released.

Surprised at the timing of this. A day after cut day? He performed well during his last two preseason games. Oh well...

In all honesty I don't see either Rudi Johnson or Shaun Alexander being on a roster this season
