ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Denver Broncos traded versatile defensive back Domonique Foxworth to the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday for a conditional seventh-round draft choice in 2009.The Falcons said the draft pick could be higher, based upon Foxworth's playing time.

Foxworth, a fourth-year pro, became expendable when the Broncos claimed cornerback Calvin Lowry off waivers from the Tennessee Titans this week.

Foxworth averaged 55 tackles and 11 pass breakups in his three seasons in Denver, where he played cornerback, safety and nickel back. He totaled 166 tackles and three interceptions in 46 games, including 18 starts.

The former third-round draft pick from Maryland was popular in the locker room and in the community, and he spearheaded the effort to build a teen center honoring slain teammate Darrent Williams last year.

He immediately becomes the best CB on the roster. Real smart, insightful guy who should fit well in their locker room and with the culture Mike Smith is trying to build. Just don't ask him to cover big guys.

I think the Falcons are going to surprise people this year. And by surprise I mean win 5-7 games. Definitely not the worst team in the league like a lot of people are predicting.

I can't agree more. It's all depends on the team staying healthy, but the vibe is good, anything will be better compared to last season.

I think they've passed KC, CHI, and CIN for sure in terms of 2008 win potential. I also think the NFC South is a lot better than most people think and that will limit the wins this year. Another good draft and a tweak or two (or 3) along the lines and ATL should be back in playoff contention next year.

This all depends on Matt Ryan's play, though. If he can't help lead this team to higher ground, I don't expect Chris Redman or DJ Shockley to.

Very true. I'm a Ryan supporter so I'm optimistic. The defensive front 7 could be real good if Abraham and Jackson can stay healthy. Of course the odds on that aren't real good.

I agree. Our front seven is potentially awesome, but so was a DL of Abraham, Jackson, Coleman and Kerney until 3 of the 4 got hurt. It sucks we never got to see that line for more than about a half of football. A very dominant half against Carolina.

As far as Ryan, he has been great with his leadership, composure, intelligence, scrambling and he puts a nice touch on the ball, but I'm not going to get excited until I see him throw some nice passes downfield. Everything he has tried over 10 or 15 yards has been off the mark.

Sad to see him go, he is a quality nickle/backup corner. If he is you're best corner, you're secondary is complete garbage.

That's what happens when you trade your Pro Bowl corner. Not that it didn't suck anyway. Dimitroff and Smith have done a nice job putting pieces in place to make this a respectable secondary in time.

I would have rather us keeping Foxworth, he was starting to show some good signs lately..a 7th round pick isn't worth it at all..

I just can't imagine Atlanta winning 5 games..I put a 100 on them winning less than 4.5 games, and I'd be getting a decent payout out of it..seems like a sure bet to me, although everybody keeps thinking they're going to surprise people..

The four things that could make or break us are HEALTH, the OL, the secondary and Ryan. I really don't see how Atlanta can be screwed anymore with health. The OL has looked better this preseason, which is about average. Baker has been excellent. Ryan has looked fine in every area accept the 15+ yard passes. As long as he doesn't fall apart for some reason he should be an ok game manager. The secondary has almost a completely new look. A lot of young guys. Really a wildcard at this point. Grimes was lights out this preseason and some of the other guys tallied interceptions, Milloy with some nice hits.

If none of those 4 areas are really bad (except maybe the secondary) then I'm sure you just lost $100.

I know it barely if ever translates but when Matt was at BC he was ON POINT with the few deep balls he threw. especially in the 4th quarter. You guys will love that kid when you put a decent O-line in front of him

They definitly could have got more he is a very underrated Nickelback but I dont think he will ever be much more than a #2 CB but getting a starter for a 7th rounder isnt bad.
