Dante Culpepper Retires

Post#1 » by happykooner » Thu Sep 4, 2008 3:59 pm

At the age of 31 Culpepper announces his retiremeant.

What I'm confused about is that he had offers from several teams including the Packers for a backup postion. I guess injury and the pursuit of other things played a factor in his early retirement.

I'm currently on the fence whether he will make it to the Hall of Fame?

According to what they're saying on SC, nobody has given him a chance to compete, aside from the deals he was offered to backup in Green Bay and Pittsburgh.

He has no shot at making it into the HOF, just no shot.

There was a time when Daunte was on pace for the Hall of Fame, but to suggest he makes it now is a joke. This isn't even a failure of the last mile sort of thing, Daunte left halfway through the marathon.

All it tells me is that Randy Moss is a **** beast. #1 Fantasy QB with him, retired at 31 without him.

Are you saying Randy Moss leaving Minnesota is the reason Daunte's career went down the drain?

Well that year when Culpepper was on fire, Moss only really played in like 7 games.

Crazy to think this guy had one of the greatest statistical seasons of all time. Too bad about that knee injury. He wasn't have a fun year before the injury, but that really was the killer.

I always liked him as a player & I feel bad for him. Hopefully he can go into broadcasting.

Well, at least he played more years in the league than Tim Couch and Akili Smith (both picked ahead of him) combined.

That 99 first round sure turned out pretty crappy. Especially for QBs.

His retirement papers were intercepted on the way to the league office.

This joke never gets old.

There were only four successful QBs to come out of that draft, and by successful, I mean made the playoffs:

Donovan F. McNabb
Daunte Culpepper
Shaun King (he took over mid-season for Trent Dilfer, FWIW)
Aaron Brooks

Sad to say, Aaron freaking Brooks was the third best QB in that draft.

Aaron Brooks had some more impressive seasons than people realize.
