Rams Bench Bulger; To Start Guy Smiley

Post#1 » by Da Schwab » Tue Sep 23, 2008 7:21 pm

ST. LOUIS -- Marc Bulger is out as the St. Louis Rams' starting quarterback after producing only two touchdowns in three games, and 38-year-old backup Trent Green is in.

The benching of the Rams' highest-paid player, announced by coach Scott Linehan in a terse, two-paragraph release on Tuesday, signals just how desperate times have become for the sagging franchise. Linehan is 11-24 in his third season, including 0-3 this year.

Last week, Linehan was told by new owner Chip Rosenbloom that improvements need to be made or that changes would be forthcoming. This is Linehan's first head coaching job at any level, earned off success as an offensive coordinator with the Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings, and he was a quarterback in college at Idaho.

I really don't see Linehan's logic behind the decision. He has to know that Green, and his 38 year old frame, won't be able to keep up behind that sorry excuse for an offensive line.

Easily one of the stupidest decisions so far this year. Was Matt MIllen hired by the Rams?

I love how the quarterback takes the blame. They have a subpar O line and the worst D in the NFL, but it's Bulger's fault.
Im pretty freakin awesome........

Maybe he could bench the starting offensive line? They cut their starting CB today.

What did Green do to deserve this?

Terrible move....i read today that Bulger's QB rating is higher than Mannings this year....the Colts aren't talking about benching him....

Stephen Jackson and whoever ends up playing QB in the comming weeks may actually be better off if they bench most of the line, and im not talking about replacing them with backups either.

It appears that many of Mark's teammates are very upset about this. I don't see how it can raise the players confidence. Mark may want to be moved after this so it's probably going to come down to him or the coach!

I don't know who Mark is, but Steven Jackson has come to Marc Bulger's defense about this whole thing.

Al Saunder is a fraud. He cheated Washington and now hes doing the same to St. Louis. Beware Rams fans. The guys offense is 700 pages of rubbish.
