Ellis Hobbs says Patriot fans are spoiled

FOXBORO — Ellis Hobbs agrees that the New England Patriots played poorly, particularly defensively, against the Miami Dolphins.

But as he heard boos rain down on him and his teammates, as he saw the fans flood the exits early in the second half of the Pats’ loss on Sunday, he took it all in.

He was surprised that the New England fans were so fickle. It’s not as if the Patriots are the St. Louis Rams or Detroit Lions. The Pats loss on Sunday was the first time they had lost a regular-season game since Dec. 10, 2006, a span of 21 games.

“Does it hurt? It doesn’t hurt,” Hobbs said of fans’ reactions, “[But] it amazes me how people react. It’s a testament to how spoiled they are, where expectations are that high that we’re not allowed a bad game.”

Well right now everyones looking for the wheels to fall off so voila! a non-story is now a relevant piece of information, thanks Ellis, grow a pair or give them a reason to cheer.
But to an extent I can see his disappointment. The fans that go to Foxborough are far from a representative slice of the majority of Pats fans. It's rich, quiet, old guys. Their big idea of showing team pride at Gillette is wearing a blue sweatshirt or a jersey.

They had a debate on this subject on D&C this morning.

They said, and I agreed. Compare it to you buying a lexus. If a buy a lexus for all that money, and it breaks down after awhile. Ya don't just say, well, I want to thank you for all your hard work in the past. No, you get pissed, and start hitting it. Well, when ya buy a pats ticket for 175, you want to see them do well, and if they don't your natural reaction is to boo, rather then say, oh hey deltha O'neal, you played great the other day, so it is alright that you missed that tackle.

I'm glad patriots fans are spoiled.

We demand excellence from our team, and they didnt perform. They make millions of dollars to keep to our level satisfaction and talk all about how they need to step up with out brady and etc, and they didnt.

Ellis Hobbs isnt used to getting booed by the hometeam. Suck it up, Hobbs, play better and shut us up, and we'll love you again.

That's not a testament to how spoiled the fans are. It's a testament to how truly pathetic the Patriots were. No doubt their fans are spoiled, how could they not be? But every team's fans would've had the same reaction.

I wouldn't have booed but I mean fans can do whatever they want basically. They're paying for your contract.

It's not like Ellis Hobbs just spewed this out of no where though. He answered a direct question. Glad he was honest.

I have never understood home fans or fans of any team booing the team they supposedly love....yeah we all get pissed off and curse our favorite team from time to time, but booing them is bigger than that. In my opinion the only time a 'boo" is necessary is when the team just flat out isn't trying. Just because a team isnt playing well doesn't mean they arent trying....I realize the fans are paying for the ticket so they have the right to do as they wish, but a true fan wouldn't boo their team, but instead cheer louder in hopes that it gives them some adrenaline to go make a big play to get MO back on their side.....I don't know about everyone else, but when I played HS ball booing never got me fired up to go play better for my "fans" in the stands....

If the defense continues to suck it won't matter. Sure they'll be much better with Brady, but they won't be winning anymore AFC championships.

As a Pats fan I think booing at the end of the first half is going overboard. Let the team go into halftime, see if they adjust, and if they dont, then go ahead and boo in the fourth quarter.

As far as Hobbs goes, hes had this point of view before. After last season he said the same thing about how the fans are fickle and that he doesnt really care about what they think (seems like he does care though). I think he played fairly well, and his kickoff returns were the only thing worth cheering for the entire game.

I'd make a joke about Ellis here but I'm afraid it'd go right over his head.

I'm guessing that you haven't been to very many Pats games.
