Fines are getting ridiculous...

Philadelphia Eagles rookies DeSean Jackson and Quintin Demps each were fined $10,000 for posing after Jackson scored on a punt return in the Eagles' 23-17 loss to the Redskins last weekend.

Both players told the Delaware County Daily Times that they would appeal.

The two celebrated by turning toward each other, with arms folded and heads bobbing -- a violation of the league's rule against "prolonged, excessive, premeditated or choreographed celebrations, particularly after scoring plays."

"Definitely I'm appealing," Demps said, according to the Daily Times. "I don't think it [warranted a fine]."

I watched this play, and this is nuts. Goodell is crossing the line here. Neither of these guys are making huge bucks this season, and with the NFL's non-guaranteed contracts, this isn't like the fines you'll see in the NBA/MLB. Maybe I'm just too much of a DeSean fan, but the guy makes 300k this year, and 10k goes towards this crap? Folding your arms and nodding at a teammate? That's prolonged? Excessive? Premeditated? Choreographed?

This goes beyond the "No Fun League" rules... this is practically extortion. Do any PHI fans know of any youtubes or clips where you can see this?

Speaking of fines, Chad Greenway got fined for that facemask non-call when Bush fumbled on Monday night. Why? Because the refs missed the call? Ridiculous.

Just read this on ESPN a few minutes ago, and this is getting a tad ridiculous. The fact that there was no flag thrown during this situation is what really makes this a borderline insane ruling.

I'm not sure if this was posted in another thread, but three Dolphins were also fined the other day for doing the 'Cupid Shuffle' after a Ronnie Brown touchdown.

The NFL fined Miami Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown and two linemen $10,000 each for their choreographed dance routine in Sunday's 17-10 victory over the San Diego Chargers.

Choreographed celebrations by two or more players aren't permitted, league spokesman Corry Rush said.

No flags were thrown at the time in the game.

Brown, right tackle Vernon Carey and right guard Ikechuku Ndukwe gathered in the end zone after Brown took a direct shotgun snap and ran 5 yards for what turned out to be the deciding touchdown.

The three then did a dance called the "Cupid Shuffle."

Brown told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that he and the starting line had practiced their moves during last Friday's walk-through, and said left tackle Jake Long dropped out of the choreographed routine at the last minute because he didn't want to be fined.

Sure, it was choreographed, but end zone celebrations are part of this game, and they won't go away.

I wonder what Goodell would've done when the Fun Bunch were around, or when the Ravens from the early 00s did their stuff?

If Goodell was around, there wouldn't be the Icky Shuffle or the Dirty Bird... this is way, way over the line. I agree there shouldnt be excessive celebrating to the point where it gets out of hand (I liked the rule about not bringing stuff on the field - Joe Horn calling someone after a TD? Laaaaaame) but this is practically not allowing people to celebrate at all...

Way to stay in touch with the me-first generation Roger...

The fines go to NFL Charities.

I agree that group celebrations and choreographed stuff should be on a real short leash, but if they're doing this in the name of sportsmanship then start throwing flags and penalizing players for the non-stop taunting after tackles and catches. At least when a guy scores he's truly accomplished something worth celebrating.

The No Fun League at it again. Pretty sad really, who want to entertain fans anyways.

The majority of the fines needed to happened. However, at times the league does go a bit far, and they need to remember some entertainment needs to be involved with the game outside of just the players running plays.

Tha'ts rediculous. Why punish the player because the refs missed the call?

Players should not be fined for things that are not called during the game period. The only exception would be if a player did something really serious like a helmet to helmet that was missed or something like that. Players should never be fined for "posing" in the endzone or celbrating TD's. That's rediculous. I don't understand those rules any way. Celebrating after TD's makes the game more entertaining.
