http://highschool.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=862709 ESTERO, Fla. - The Estero High football staff gathered in head coach Rich Dombroski's office late Friday, almost in stunned silence.
Earlier that night, Estero lost to Naples High by 13.
Not by 13 points. By 13 touchdowns. That's right: Naples 91, Estero 0.
WOW,
talk about demoralizing young kids...yikes...

It wasn't even the most lopsided score in the country this weekend—in Ohio, Beechcroft beat Centennial 96-0, taking knees on plays in the fourth quarter to avoid triple figures.

The other team taking a knee throughout the 4th quarter would be even more embarrassing.

i read this yesterday, great quote in there
"Hey," offered Estero defensive line coach Pat Hayes after the one-sided affair, "I didn't even know 91 was a multiple of seven."
i didn't either
also
Soon after the game ended, his inbox began filling with angry e-mails, some from Estero parents wondering why so many points were necessary, some from Naples parents wondering why their kids didn't play more in an effort to pad their stats.

My friend Dave is a guard for Naples, he played about 10 minutes of that game, before the entire first team was taken off the field.

During my playing days at Columbus Northland, we lost to archrival Beechcroft (aka Beefcrotch) 70-6, lost the next week to Westerville South 77-10, and the following week to DeSales 69-0. And we accomplished that despite having 3 future D-I players on the team. The year after I left they lost to now-defunct CAPE (Cincy Academy of Phy Ed) 116-2. In my two years there we had 2 wins, both over Centennial, including my best-ever career game: 16 completions with 2 TD passes, and I recorded a sack, forced fumble, and made 3 tackles for loss.

If you actually read the article, it also says that a lot of the starters didn't play at all and the ones that did only took a couple of snaps. Everyone apparently knew this game was going to be lopsided going in. The Naples team has a ton of players committed to division 1 schools while the Estero team really doesn't have anyone of note. The Naples coach benched most of his starters, they really didn't do anything wrong. What should they have done? Keep taking knees? On both sides of the ball?

In Connecticut the winning coach would have been suspended for the next game. They adopted a 50 point rule.
Two years ago, a school named New London beat a Tourtellotte/Ellis Tech team 60-0 which resulted in the Tourtellotte coach getting arrested for hitting a security guard and New London assistant coach after a time out was called late in the game.
So the following year they put in the 50 point rule. So last season New London beat the same team 51-2. Yes New London actually had their QB run through the end zone to get a safety as to not get their coach suspended.

......? Did you read?
I mean, what do you want the guy to do? Forfeit the game?
On the other hand, it's fun for the winning team. We blew out a team 67-6 this year and it felt pretty good.

Stupid rule. It seems like most of the time when this happens it's not because the team is trying to run up the score, it's just because they're so much better.

Yeah that New London team is a top 5 school in the state, while the other team has only been around for 7 or 8 years, plus it is a combined school.

well in mexico there is this league called ONEFA it has like 20 teams and it's the top college league.
for many years teams like unam and poli (public schools) owned everyone, but for the last maybe 20-15 years the private schools have changed the tables and have won almost every title for that span.
for this season they separated into two different leagues because public schools didn't see that playing the private schools was fair.
so, that introduction was to say that in this last weekend pumas CU beated pumas acatlán 101-0!!!

Alright I know this is an old thread, but honestly when I read this story I thought it was the same team, but it's not....so what's up with Florida HS teams running up the score
http://highschool.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=989089Florida HS football team defends 83-0 rout
He can explain that three of the touchdowns came on returns. And that a blocked punt brought a fourth.
He can offer that his team threw just one pass in the second half. One that was played with backups and with a running clock throughout.
He can even reveal that his team lost to this very opponent just a year ago.
But in a high school landscape increasingly aware of sportsmanship issues - one where quick harsh judgments are made based solely on a score - Chaminade-Madonna football coach Tim Tyrrell knows he has a tough time explaining how his Hollywood, Fla., team rolled to victory over Pompano Beach last week.
83-0.
