Joey Porter: How's Matt Jones Playing

AT IT AGAIN!
Jacksonville receiver Matt Jones snapped back at Joey Porter on Thursday, a day after the outspoken Miami Dolphins linebacker questioned how Jones could still be playing despite having a felony cocaine charge against him earlier this year.
“I don’t even know why he’s even thinking about me,” Jones said. “I mean, maybe he likes other men and sits up and thinks about stuff, so I don’t know. … Is Joey Porter the commissioner? Then why would I even worry about it?”
On a conference call with reporters Wednesday, Porter responded to a question about the NFL’s crackdown on hits deemed illegal and dangerous by saying he was “still trying to figure out how a guy gets caught with cocaine in his car and still plays the game and nothing happens.”
“How does he get away with that?” added Porter, fined $20,000 last month for criticizing referee Ed Hochuli after a loss to Houston. “And then you fine people $20,000 for making comments to the media about the refs. The guy got caught with cocaine.”
In July, Jones was charged with cocaine possession when a police officer in Fayetteville, Ark., saw him inside a parked car allegedly cutting up cocaine with a credit card.
Last month, Jones agreed to enter into a drug treatment program that could erase the felony charge against him.
The NFL suspended Jones for three games, but he appealed the suspension and is awaiting a final decision.

It gets to the point where you want these players to shutup. You can hate on Porter all you want, but he really does speak the truth and he backs up his trash talking on the field.

I like Joey and the way he's speaking the truth. He's going to get fined for it at times, but he has the money, and it makes the game even more interesting. I believe he's not only trying to get himself some pub, but also the Miami Dolphins, and I don't see this being negative at all. Someone has to be Roger Goodell's adviser.

Well nothing happened because he appealed. In the end, something will happen to Jones.

^How often do the Dolphins and Jaguars even play each other?
I don't see how Jones can justify appealing the suspension. Three games for pretty much the most serious possible violation of NFL rules is a joke. He should've sat out the first three games of the season while laughing his ass off.

Why do people like Odell Thurman get suspended indefinatly for misdemeanor crimes but Matt Jones is playing with a major felony

Joey Porter gives a sort of apology to Matt Jones"Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter took an uncharacteristic angle Friday in firing back at Jacksonville wide receiver Matt Jones a day after Jones questioned Porter's sexual orientation. Porter apologized. Sort of. ''I'm not even trying to get into a war of words with Matt Jones,'' Porter said. ``I apologize for using you, but you was just like the example that was clear to everybody. Everybody in the league is looking like, he did this and did that. I'm not making this up, it's not like something that's made up. ``This is real stuff that happened. So that's how that came about. Sorry about that, Matt.'' The verbal sparring between Porter and Jones started earlier this week, when Porter used ..."

Wow, aside from the horrible grammar, classy move by Porter. I'm not sure he realized the impact his words had the first time around.

Well, Porter has a point BUT I like the fact that the NFL is looking at it on a case-by-case basis. For the most part, unlike guys like Thurman, Henry, Adam "You're not Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao" Jones, Matt has been a character guy throughout. He is beloved in Arkansas, and pretty much everyone in that state was in shock when he was arrested.
As a Jaguar fan who wanted Matt Jones out of the team before the start of the season, it's clear that the arrest woke him up. He started focusing on football and doing what he can to be a better NFL player. Sometimes, these players get caught up in the money, fame, etc. and they fall into these traps without realizing them, and sometimes, things like this are enough to wake them up and realize that's not who they want to be.
Then, you have guys like Odell, Henry, Jones, etc.. who does the same things over and over and over again and never learns their lesson.
For people like Matt, perhaps suspending him, and taking away what seems to be his main focus in life could backfire and cause him to further go into the deep end. He's in the league substance abuse watch now. He's tested randomly by the NFL. If he keeps himself, clean, then good for him.
I am surprised that there's been no suspension handed down on John Henderson yet though.
