If Vince Young were still starting...

...would the Titans be in the same position they are now?
This question was just asked on NFL Live, and its made me think. Its not as if the Titans have been pass crazy, their running game and great D has carried them all season long, but who's to say VY could've made the important throws that Kerry Collins has made, thus far.
Is Collins' veteran leadership behind center the key to this unbelievable start, or could Vince Young be having an MVP-type season as well?

That's a tough one. Collins hasn't exactly been putting up huge numbers aside from the one game where he was close to 300 yards. On the other hand he hasn't been making many mistakes and playing a smart game. He isn't too mobile now so that probably says something about the O line as well.
I think people are just throwing Collins name out for mvp because they see the Titans record then think "Collins is their QB??". If Young had led them to this record they would probably bring up his mediocre numbers and not mention him again.

As a preface I'll tell all of you I'm a huge Vince Young fan (been so since his days at Texas) but yes, they'd be just as good. Taking bias out of it Kerry Collins has been nothing more than a glorified Trent Dilfer. Vince Young may have made more bonehead mistakes but on the same token he'd of made it up with his athleticism.
Collins being in the MVP race is a joke to me. There are so many more deserving candidates (including some of his teammates) but quarterbacks get all the love (or hate) in the NFL.

The Titans would still be very good, VY as a passer did show some improvement in the 2nd half of last year in my veiw but that is debateable. I agree Washwiz if anyone is the MVP of the Titans it should be Al but they will never give it to a defensive player.

Vince has always throws more int's compared to his touchdowns and Kerry is 8/4 this season. I feel Kerry is more dependable for this team right now and that Vince would make more mistakes.

They would have a couple loses by now...Not only do guys get around Collins, he is a better Quarterback at this point. He is the type of QB that wins Superbowls..Vince Young is not. Who cares about athletisicm when you have a hard time completing half of you're passes and turn the ball over more than you convert on TD's.
I figured you guys would be over with the athletic QB love fest. the NFL isnt college, its a league full of athletes. You can out athlete a bunch of athletes. Gotta use you're brain in the pros. Something Young has not shown he can do.
They would have 2-3 losses with Young as the QB...

If VY was starting, I reckon they would have lost against the Bears.

Vince Young is just a bad player at this point..they're definitely better with Collins..
they'd still be a playoff team with Young..but he gambles way too much for a guy with no talent throwing the ball..

They'd have at least 2 losses at this point.

id say 6-4 or 7-3. The team is built for a Kerry Collins quaterback. Great offensive line great running backs great defense all they need is a guy who wont put them in a position to lose. I would say this Titans team is similiar(although better) than that 2006 Superbowl Bears team except they made the decision to start the conservative quaterback over the erratic one (Grossman over Griese).

I dont know if this Titans team is better then the Bears. That Bear D was absolutly nasty.
I'd agree that Vince Young would probably mean a couple of losses by now. Not because he's bad or anything like that, but because of his inexperience. I'm really not a Kerry Collins fan, but the Titans need someone who can just manage a game.

I disagree with the people who have the Titans going 6-4 with VY. VY is 18-9 as a starter but you have to remember this Titan team is much better then the last 2 years.

The turnover margin would be much different, which would have given teams more opportunities to score, which might have lead to more losses for the Titans, blah blah blah.
With Young under center, the Titans are a 6-4 team. Defenses would be stacking the box more, daring Young to chuck into traffic or gamble downfield.

Excellent points. The irony is that they drafted Chris Johnson in part to give Young a dangerous underneath/dumpoff receiver and to keep a LB or safety occupied where Vince would know where he's at.

Taking nothing away from Vince, but they would be 7-3 now if he was starting.
I do think his time on the bench will only make him a better player than he already is.
His time on the bench will enable him to better manage the game when he gets his chance again.
He will be starting again next year.

Once again, the Titans have the Jaguars to thank for another successful season. Vince Young's mistakes would have already caused the Titans losses this year, and they wouldn't be as good since team's will stack up to stop the run and Young wouldn't be able to throw a ball beyond 5 yards to make the defense pay.

The funny thing about all of this is that Kerry Collins has never been known for good game management or for taking care of the ball. Actually, taking care of the ball has been one of his biggest weaknesses his entire career. He's just not doing it now because the D and the running game allow him to take a back seat and he's embracing it.
