The New York Giants run to repeat as Super Bowl Champions came to a halting stop this afternoon at the Meadowlands losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 23-11. Going on a miracle run of their own, the resurgent Eagles baffled the Giants all afternoon with their hard defense, and even tougher determination. Sound familiar?

It should. After making a similar run to the Super Bowl and creating a classic finish, the Giants were looked at as the favorites in the NFC, if not the NFL to repeat as Champions, especially after a strong beginning to the season. Through week 13, the Giants were rolling at an impressive 11-1 with sights set on a repeat performance.

What could stop them? They had overcome the loss of defensive leaders Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora to retirement and injury. David ‘Miracle Catch’ Tyree was out for the year. Star receiver Plaxico Burress was on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury, but was expected back in a couple of weeks, well before the playoffs. Despite this, they were winning.

The wheels to the season came off on the night of November 28th. Plaxico Buress and teammate Antonio Pierce were at New York City nightclub Latin Quarter when Plaxico’s gun, being held in the drawstring of his sweatpants accidentally went off.

The result? A bullet to the thigh, a season ending injury, a loss of nearly $30 million for Plaxico, and now an early vacation for the New York Giants.

The Eagles slaughter the Cowboys and it has to be some off-field reason Dallas lost, right? As opposed to a whole bunch of on-field reasons the Eagles won. Same thing for the Giants - had to be the Plaxico situation, right? Even when he was out with his hamstring injury, they were still winning. What happened was that they went into an absolutely brutal section of their schedule, and went 1-3 as a result. If you need more clarification on what brutal scheduling can do to a team, ask Washington.

The Eagles should not be viewed as an underdog or Cinderella. They're the longest-standing contender in that conference. They're a top-notch organization. They have some of the best players at key positions. They're probably the best team in the NFC, thanks to Carolina's putrid showing.

You obviously missed the point of the article, its not the distraction that killed the Giants. Missing Plaxico Burress killed them, they aren't the same team without him.
Its just like the Eagles aren't the same team withput Brian Westbrook, you can't take a important player pff your team and expect it not to affect you.

Its just like the Eagles aren't the same team withput Brian Westbrook, you can't take a important player pff your team and expect it not to affect you.

To address this topic in general, I agree. I think the absence of Burress really hurt the Giants but it is not the sole reason either. In the end, the Giants lost because they just didn't have it. Maybe when Osi comes back next year, Plaxico is gone, the special teams is upgraded, the OC is fired, Pierce is replaced at MLB, and if the Giants get a top flight WR they can regain that "it" that they lost.

i know i know, the truth hurts. very difficult to accept at this moment in time. but accept my words as truth, and it will ease the pain. THE GIANTS ARE DONE! they are never getting back to the superbowl, FACT. at least for several . . . several . . . several . . . years. and they will begin to underachieve. why? i know this coach. it happens. regardless of players, his style pounds on you and win or not, it gets old. and when it does get old, IT GETS OLD FAST. and once theyve taken down the title, there simply is nothing left in the tank to give to this coach.

Huh? The Giants were 11-1 with PLax and 1-4 without him. How were we fine without him? We obviously weren't the same team?
If Plax played he would of did the same thing to the Eagles that Fitz did, the Giants are 5-1 against the Eagles with Plax.

The Eagles were just lucky they caught the Giantys were they were down a key player, and they still couldn't get a ring. This year was all gift wrapped for them, and they still choke.

The Giants are a truly incredible team, going 11-1 in the nine game Plax played.

3-0 without him prior to the slide looks fine to me. As I said, when the schedule gets tougher, teams lose.
