Former Buccaneers' defensive end Simeon Rice called former coach Jon Gruden a 'scumbag' in an interview with Sirius NFL Radio on Tuesday.
"You get what you deserve," Rice said. "That's what Jon said. He got it now. Everybody gets what they deserve. . . .
"You look at what he did when Chris [Simms] damn near died on the field; he wanted to release him right when he got injured. I get hurt, my shoulder's torn off the bone. This dude releases me. You know what I mean? I'm your guy. The list goes on. Keenan McCardell, that situation was a debacle. Keyshawn Johnson, another situation [that] was a debacle. Joey Galloway, which was his man, was in the dog house all year because he got injured, broke his ankle, or whatever. Brad Johnson, that situation was bad. Brings Jeff Garcia in here; oh, he's going to change things. I helped recruit him [and he] released me, kept Jeff, and then put him in the dog house. Gets rid of Brian Greise, brings him, starts a controversy. It was chaotic. I'm giving you facts."
Rice didn't hold anything back.
"How I feel personally? I could tell you that, too. I think he's a scumbag," Rice said. "I think he's a scumbag personally. That's when he's telling you one thing and... You know what he told me? ‘Simeon, you'll be here in the next five years.' I got injured [and] this man's never said one word to me. I won a Super Bowl for you. I got 13 sacks, 12, 15 every year for you. I balled. I got injured, [and] you let me go like it was nothing."

No surprise to anyone. One look at Gruden and the first thought is what a pretentious bastard.

Although i dont want to defend Gruden. You have to agree with Rice on a lot of what he said. . .
however, this is the NFL. Are you supposed to pay players for a few years after they get hurt? Thats why signing bonuses are so high. . . . .
Dont think Gruden is the problem as much as the system

the loss of keyshawn johnson was big. he was the main reason they won and had any success offensively on that team. in the superbowl, he made all of the big catches and was clutch. for that gruden needed to get dumped a long time ago.

Bingo. The NFL encourages everyone to be a scumbag. For all those harping on the NBA's guaranteed contract system, this is the alternative. Injured? Slightly declining? Worth your contract, but your team doesn't feel like paying you? Hit the road. Absolutely no organizational loyalty. It's not limited to the Bucs either.
LAKESHOW, this is a tangent, but Alstott was the backbone of that offence.

But Alstott didn't play for USC.

He was a nice player, but to call him the backbone of the offense is a reach.

That's fine and all, but you don't lie to a guy's face like that, or several guys faces. Since that is the way the system works, you should never approach a guy and tell him 'i want you here for the next 5 years.' You're just giving them a false sense of security and messing with them for no reason. it is very scumbaggish.

Please.
If you're healthy and I want to see you here for the next five years, I'm not lying, I'm telling the truth. Get hurt and all bets are off.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm saying the NFL's CBA encourages this.
