They don't have the capspace nor can they offer the money that Haynesworth wants.

Realistically Haynesworth wants to get paid and go to a contender, and considering that I think he'll be around a $8-9 possibly $10 (He actually deserves it, IMO) Million cap-hold for next season, realistically only 3-4 teams can offer that kind of money, with Tennessee being the front-runners, seeing as how they have the most money under the cap, and as well had the best record in the league. Good thing is, the Titans have locked up a lot of their younger talent to appropriate, long-term, cap friendly contracts, (Finnegan, Roos, Stewart), and the veterans who were also signed in FA have friendly numbers as well (Hope, Scott, Thornton). I think the Titans could manage to pay Hayensworth around $8 or 9 Million (Kelly is the highest paid DT and he has a cap-hold of around $7 Mil, I believe), and still manage to come away with around $22 Million in cap space to be used to possibly re-sign Kerry Collins, and also more importantly, their 2009 FAs which include Keith Bulluck, Kyle Vanden Bosch, Nick Harper, Alge Crumpler, Chris Johnson, Tony Brown and Eugene Amano. Thankfully, three of these players are on the downside of their career (Bulluck, Harper, Crumpler) and will likely take a lesser contract and possibly a lower caphold than they have right now (Bulluck is the team's highest paid player at around $8 Mil). Vanden Bosch re-signed with Tennessee a while ago at a cap friendly number despite being one of the top DEs that year. He has shown that he can take a paycut for the team, and could likely do that again in FA period in 2009. Unless Brown turns in to an absolute monster in the next season, he'll likely be re-signed at the same rate that they have him right now. The only two who will see huge raises will be Johnson (will likely be paid as a top-5, unless injuries derail him next season) and Amano, who should be taking over starting duties at C by then because no one expects Mawae to be playing when he's 40. The raises to these two players are more than offset by the decrease in cap holds that the other players will have.

Taking in to account all of this, the Titans should be able to sign Hayensworth to a lucrative contract, and still be able to come out with around $18-19 Million dollars in cap space in 2010 (assuming they don't sign any more big name free agents in this FA period).

Of course, this is all preliminary and very rudimentary calculation of cap space and cap holds, and includes no consideration of the breakdown of salary in base, roster bonus, incentives, and signing bonuses.

I wouldn't be surprised if he went to my team the Packers, they got plenty of caproom, got a great new defensive staff that is making the transition to the 3-4. Plus they have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. I think that would be a good signing if it happens.

the #1 freeagent out there. he should be paid whatever he asks for. stack him in the middle, and any problem up front is solved.

After clearing house the past few days, the Denver Broncos have plenty of cap space and a major need for something to help fix the defense from the middle in. Not sure he would want to be part of a rebuilding defense, but the offense is there to make them a very good team. He would also have to deal with playing in the 3-4.

Haynesworth is a big difference maker on defense. You don't find many guys who can play the run and rush the passer especially at the DT position. He can change the defense big time. The opposing team would have to make him the focal point which would allow the DEs to have one-on-one matchups which result into more opportunites for sacks and it would also allow LBs to roam around and make plays. PAY him what he deserves. He knows it.

Let him go to the Raiders so he can become the highest paid DT ever, imagine that. One offseason adding the highest paid punter, corner back and DT ever. That would be hilarious. In all seriousness year in and year out he has proved to be footballs elite defensive tackle, there is no downside for him really. If you are a team that has money and is dedicated to winning you need to make him an offer. He instantly makes your entire defensive unit better.

If by some small miracle Atlanta gets Haynesworth there is no doubt in my mind that either him or Abe (or both) hit IR at some point. When we got Abe to begin with we were going to have a dominant line with Coleman and Kerney. Abe messed up his groin the first game, Coleman got turf toe, and Kerney tore a muscle.

TITANS INCREASE OFFER TO HAYNESWORTH

The Tennessee Titans have upped their contract offer to All-Pro defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth after meeting with his agent Saturday at the NFL scouting combine, according to Terry McCormick of the Nashville City Paper.

The Titans’ initial offer to Haynesworth has been reported by the Tennessean as being for four years and $36 million with roughly $20 million to $25 milion in guaranteed money. However, he’s reportedly seeking $35 million in guaranteed money.

According to the article, it’s unknown how much the Titans have done to bridge the gap. And it remains unclear if the Titans wil be inclined to match other teams’ hefty offers if Haynesworth makes it to free agency.

Haynesworth has already indicated that he intends to test free agency and listen to what other teams have to say and how big a check they’re willing to write. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to emerge as a player in the Haynesworth sweepstakes.

This time around he tells me that the Washington Redskins will break the bank to sign Albert Haynesworth. The Titans could come over the top of the Redskins deal as well, but my guess is that the Redskins will let Haynesworth get the best offer possible from the Titans and then "better deal" it.

My source tells me to look for a contract that could break $100 million with an average of $15 million to $16 million per. My guy is almost never wrong and Dan Snyder gets what he wants. As a Texan fan, I would really be devastated to see Haynesworth leave the division ... only, no I wouldn't. Beat it, Haynesworth.

I just came to this thread to post that my Redskins guy told me he expects Haynesworth to be a Redskin and the highest paid defensive player in history. The number I heard was 5yrs/$80M with $35M guaranteed. I asked him how close it was to being a done deal and he told me, "90% chance of being done before Friday".

Strangely they probably have the cap room for it if they cut Shawn Springs, which they were thinking about doing anyways.
