Wow. I can't say I saw this one coming. I figured both sides would try and get a deal done, but looks like that won't be the case. I wish Fred all the best. I hope a Championship caliber team picks him up and he wins one and has a monster game in the Super Bowl to help him on his HoF bid.

Great, underrated RB. Shame, that he only has one pro bowl appearance.

Ravens CB Chris McCallister cut as well. Looks like the cuts are starting to pick up.

What really surprised me about the Taylor decision was that everyone was under the assumption that the team would keep him if he took a paycut. Word is that he was willing to play for $2M + another $2M worth of incentives, and the Jaguars told him no. It was basically retire or be released.

Taylor and Del Rio no longer got along, so the writing was on the wall.
I'm real interested to see what the market for Taylor is. An aging RB on the wrong side of 30 with some injury history just doesn't seem that appealing when you can get Kevin Jones or Mo Morris or Derrick Ward--all probably for less $$ than what Taylor thinks he should get. There really aren't many teams looking for RBs that I can tell: HOU wants a power back, ARI wants a speed back, BUF is now looking to replace Lynch (who could spend the season in prison), WAS wants a low-cost speedster, TB wants a #3, CLE wants a younger Jamal Lewis, DET wants a 3rd down back, CHI wants a speedy back. It's not like Taylor is going to SD to replace LT (if he goes, which I think happens soon) or to KC to replace LJ (sooner). Maybe to the Giants to play for Coughlin again and fill Ward's role?

McAllister might wind up back in BAL or follow Coach Ryan up to the Jets. But he sure looked done last year. Caveat emptor.

I hope Green Bay goes after him, they could use some veteran leadership on offensive side of ball.

Green Bay is one of the places he would fit in nicely.

But I think this reeks of New England , I think they try him out for a year, they're a team that tends to get alot of aging backs right before they retire- Antowan Smith and Corey Dillon come to mind. Plus Taylor is certainly an upgrade over what they currently have at RB..and the Pats are a passing team anyway they wouldn't ask Taylor to carry too big a load. He'd definately be a nice fit there as much as I hate to admit it.

I agree this is exactly what the Pats would need and probably the BEST situation for Taylor, on a side note Duece McCalister was also just released. But unlike Taylor who I still think has something left in the tanke I believe Duece is all done.

This sucks for the Jags, Isn't he like a fan favorite?

He is, but I would guess Maurice Jones-Drew is very close, if not more popular than him. Most knowledgeable Jags fan understand the reasons for letting him loose, and honestly, it's not because he's lost a step.

I for one am glad to see him have a chance to go to a team like New England.
