WOW

Pats did it again !

with a little help from their old friend 8-)

You gotta love the poetic justice/irony in all of this.

Opening game last season...Bernard Pollard of the chiefs takes out the MVP which puts Cassel as starting QB...then the chiefs trade for him...wowzers!!

Wow......the Chiefs better put some talent around Cassell. It starts with their offensive linemen. They have been horrendous.

The New England Patriots have traded quarterback Matt Cassel and linebacker Mike Vrabel to Kansas City for the Chiefs' second-round pick in the 2009 draft, SI.com has learned.

I don't know if I like this move.

Peter King reporting that it's just this year's 2nd rounder (#34) for Vrabel and Cassell. I'm a little surprised NE couldn't at least work in a pick next year. You can't tell me that those two have comparable or less value than Winslow...

If the Vikings can get a 2nd rounder for Daunte Culpepper this might not be all that bad of a trade.

I still think Cassell will be average at best in KC. I thought Thigpen played well considering the talent around him.

Shefter is reporting there's a 3rd team involved in the trade.

Outstanding deal for the Chiefs, and I'm not even that high on Cassell.

OK this is what I've been able to put together

http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/28/patriot ... to-chiefs/

The Deal is officially done per Schefter

The Kansas City Chiefs have completed a trade for New England Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel. There is no new contract in place, but the teams have agreed on compensation — details of which were not immediately available.

But it is a done deal. Cassel is going to Kansas City.

Now here is talk about a 3rd team, well PFT has this to say

http://blogs.nbcsports.com/home/

CHIEFS GOT VRABEL AND CASSEL FOR A SECOND-ROUNDER

According to Peter King of SI.com, the final terms of the trade between the Chiefs and the Patriots include the movement of both quarterback Matt Cassel and linebacker Mike Vrabel in exchange for a second-round pick.

As a practical matter, then, the connection of Vrabel to the deal decreases the likelihood (in our view) of a third team crashing the party and bagging Cassel.

Meanwhile, we're hearing rumblings that the Buccaneers are the undisclosed mystery team, and that if they can't land Cassel they'll make a play for quarterback Tyler Thigpen, the incumbent starter in Kansas City.

so putting this all together and taking into consideration that weird rumor earlier today

http://musketfire.com/2009/02/27/cassel ... buccaneer/

Could Cassel Be The Newest Chief, or Buccaneer?

I’m still working on the details involving the “major announcement” the New England Patriots were suppose to be making this evening. At first it was to believed that Matt Cassel was headed to the Kansas City Chiefs. But hold on could Cassel be the newest Chief, or Buccaneer? It’s rumored that Cassel might be involved in the deal with Mike Vrabel going to KC. But WAIT, it could be that he’s headed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers possibly in a three team deal involving the Pats, Chiefs and Bucs!

This new deal is rumored to involve the Bucs, 1st round draft pick this year (#19) and their second round pick in the 2010 draft (conditional),in exchange for Cassel. With NE sending Vrabel to KC for a draft pick, and KC getting another player. Also rumored is that TB is working details on a new contract roughly worth close to $ 30 million for four-years for Cassel.

It looks like the pats had a deal with KC, then Bucs tried to jump in at the end, and they may get Thigpen instead...

WOW THIS IS SO CONFUSING.....

No way Cassell gets sent to Tampa for that, otherwise NE would have just sent him there without involving KC, right?

Guys, the teams confirmed the compensation. It's Vrabel and Cassell for the Chiefs 2nd rounder.

Here is my take on what went on. Yesterday the pats trade vrabel for undisclosed pick, but deal was not finalized. They continued to talk and agreed on the 34th overall pick for both Cassel and Vrabel. Then a surprise team, tampa bay I guess, even though I don't see how they are a surprise, tried to jump into the bidding, but because of the respect with the between Pioli and BB, they didn't screw each other over.

I guess this deal makes sense, draft weekend is going to be very exciting. But after hearing the 20th pick and schefter saying how teams view cassel as a top 8 QB, I got all excited for a higher pick. Oh well.

Top 8 QB? People would rather have Matt Cassell over

Peyton Manning
Tom Brady
Philip Rivers
Jay Cutler
Aaron Rodgers
Drew Brees
Matt Ryan
Carson Palmer
Ben Roethlisberger
Eli Manning
Donovan McNabb
Tony Romo

Whoever these teams are, needs to reevaluate their thinking.

Noooooo.... lol

I'm sure Bill has something up his sleeve, maybe we use the capspace on a fa or trade some of the picks for a "star"

Cassel deal official: He's headed to Chiefs

Chiefs acquired Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel in exchange for the 34th overall pick in the 2009 draft pick.
Patriots fans won't be happy, but speculation is that New England preferred the second-round pick over the third overall because of the contract value. They have three second-round picks now and also likely felt pressure to get Cassel's cap number off the books quickly to move forward in free agency. Clearly, the couldn't get a better deal elsewhere and they are confident in Tom Brady's health. Cassel was not a lock to have success everywhere, but he's set up as a long-term fantasy starter with Scott Pioli and coach Todd Haley playing to his strengths. The Chiefs will likely incorporate a pass-first, shotgun-heavy offense. This is great news for Dwayne Bowe and company.
