Blockbuster breaking news concerning the Denver Broncos.
Broncos Insider Vic Lombardi has learned the Broncos are actively trying to shop Pro Bowl quarterback Jay Cutler. Lombardi spoke to Cutler Sunday morning.
"I've heard the rumors," Cutler said. "I know what they're trying to do. Even though I love Denver and I'd love to remain a Bronco, I know how this business works. If they want me to play somewhere else, so be it."
http://blogs.nbcsports.com/home/archive ... ed-tr.htmlREPORTS: BRONCOS ENTERTAINED TRADING CUTLER
Adam Schefter of NFL Network and Vic Lombardi of CBS4 in Denver report that the Broncos have been shopping quarterback Jay Cutler.
Per both reports, the Bucs and Broncos were trying to swing a three-way deal pursuant to which Matt Cassel would have been traded from the Pats to the Broncos, Cutler would have gone from Denver to Tampa, and the Patriots would have been compensated presumably by the Buccaneers
And here's where it gets interesting. Schefter's version creates the impression that the Broncos didn't initiate the talks, and merely responded to the offers presented. Vic Lombardi's version suggests that the Broncos were and are shopping the eleventh overall pick in the 2006 draft.
There's a consensus in league circles that Cutler has plateaued after showing some improvement early in the 2008 season. He has been criticized in some circles for having a nonchalant demeanor.
What's going on in Denver?
I thought he was their "franchise QB" ???

here's some more info
http://blogs.nbcsports.com/home/archive ... n-the.htmlCUTLER THINKS HE'S STILL ON THE BLOCK
Despite an effort by the team to explain that it wasn't and isn't trying to trade him, quarterback Jay Cutler considers himself on the block.
"My understanding at this point is they're trying to trade me," Cutler told Mike Klis of the Denver Post. "We'll see where I end up at. I liked it here, I liked playing with these guys but obviously they're not going to let me have that opportunity."
Past tense. I liked it here.
And there's more.
"I'm upset," Cutler said. "I mean I'm really shocked at this point. I could see why they want [Matt] Cassel. I don't know if they think I can't run the system or I don't have the skills for it. I just don't get it. Or if they don't think they can sign me with my next contract. I just don't know what it is. I've heard I'm still on the trading block."

NFL Network this evening said that they were approached about a trade, shot it down in a hurry and that was that. They weren't 'shopping him'. I tend to believe that version. It makes no sense any other way.

wat i gathered was a 3 way, cassel to den, cutler to tb, and picks from tb to NE
however it didnt go thru
and now cutler is ticked and wants to be traded
i think cutler just needs to put his tampon back on and understand this is a business

That makes zero sense. More likely Tampa proposed the deal, Denver laughed the phone off the hook and it's somehow been spun as having been 'discussed'.

So, Denver signs all these free agents, but yet they plan on trading the key piece of the team?
I doubt anything happens.

Drug Bust, if you read closely the opening post, you will see one of the links talks about 2 versions of what happened. NFL network's reporting indicates like you mentioned: the broncos WERE NOT actively trying to trade him, only approached, just picked up the phone, listened, and hung up.
The other report coming from a 'broncos insider' says the broncos were actively seeking to trade him. Now other sources are backing what he reported, that the broncos were
actively trying to trade him.http://blogs.nbcsports.com/home/ESPN.com's Bill Williamson, however, writes that the Broncos were actively trying to acquire Matt Cassel by dangling Cutler. Chris Mortensen backed up Williamson's report on ESPNews.
http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afcwest/0-3- ... raded.htmlThe Denver Broncos may have seriously damaged their relationship with quarterback Jay Cutler.
A source close to the situation confirmed the Broncos were trying to acquire quarterback Matt Cassel from the New England Patriots by dangling Cutler, their Pro Bowl quarterback.

Broncos nation already wants Josh McDouch out. Cutler did in interview with the Denver post, his agent made calls around to his sources in the various teams involved Det, TB, Pats and the Broncos. They were shopping him, and like Cutler told the reporter Multi teams do not just call up and all the sudden start making offers for a young Pro Bowl franchise QB unless the word is out he is on the block.
They got busted trying to pull a fast one, and now they are in a really bad situation. According to Mort, and a couple Denver insiders they had Ok'd the deal that would of sent Cutler to Tampa, in return Denver would get Cassel and a 3rd round(tampas) and the Pats would of gotten the 19th pick from Tampa. Denver had accepted and pulled the trigger. But the Pats backed out. Because they had already verbally agreed on the KC deal.
The BroncosCountry.com messange board is going bannanas and wants Coach and the GM gone.

From an extremely credible DET source:
The Lions have offered #20 and #33 for Cutler. DET was very actively involved in the Cassel scenarios, moreso than TB because they had better picks to offer. The story I heard is that NE would trade Cassel to the Lions for the #20 pick, then the Lions would deal Cassel to DEN for Cutler. What interests me as well is the subplot that NE wanted nothing to do with either the #1 or #3 overall picks, and that NE made the deal with KC in part because it allowed them to dump Vrabel for salary purposes and they liked the pick range.
No idea at all if DEN is really serious about moving Cutler. There is one school of thought that the new regime is trying to light a fire under his butt, because a lot of people in DEN (both old and new) believe he's a complacent loner. Knowing where McDaniels came from, I would put some credibility into that. If I'm Denver, I have to seriously think about that DET offer on the table.

As a Panther fan, I'd love to get Cutler to Carolina. I know Denver is converting to the 3-4. Is there any way a trade is worked out with Cutler and Peppers trading places? I know there would be picks involved, and Denver would likely need Delhomme also to be a stop gap starting QB for a couple years. May be good for both teams to get something of value back for 2 stars who are not real happy with their current situations.

So the guy asks for a trade, then when his name is floated around in rumors he gets upset. I think Mr. Cutler needs to grow up and learn this is a business.
And if the Lions are offering 20 and 33 for him I'd already have his bags packed for him.

Not sure if theres any chance that could happen....but as a Panthers fan I really wouldn't mind that. We need a QB in the worse way and Cutler could help out immensely.

You know they are doing this thing called Free Agency these days. You can sign guys who are not under contract with another team. Sorry had to.
I'm not sure of the Broncos cap number. But why not throw some money at Kurt Warner and draft a QB with one of the picks the Broncos would be getting? You get Warner for two years and you still have good weapons to go around.
To be honest we've seen teams win with Matt Cassell, Kerry Collins, Jeff Garcia, etc this past season. And lets also not forget that Jay Cutler is 17-20 as a starter, he's not exactly this huge winner himself.

I really don't get why you'd trade a young QB with Cutler's upside. The free agents left out there are either old or bad. Cutler's upset now, but he'll get over it.

and i dont know how you can put the blame on cutler for his record, did you see that excuse of a defense they churned out last year?
