he hasn't had a legit chance to prove himself, how can we label him a bust already?

Never really had the opportunity...He isn't a bust, but he hasn't been a stud.

He was given the starting job a couple times, couldn't hold it. You can't say he didn't have the opportunity.

No way to tell yet. If Rodgers had been thrown to the wolves in year one or two he would have been looked upon as a bust. Wait until Leinart gets another shot.

Well, I'm not ready to call him a bust. It isn't looking good for him for the next 2 years, but he still has time.

I voted no, he has been named the starter several times but yet still has not gotten the playing oppurtunity for us to label him a bust yet.

I am. He couldn't beat out Kurt Warner, who was so obviously on his last legs at the beginning of the year. (That he got better as the season went on, well, some things just cannot be explained, can they?)

do you actually know anything about football? warner cut his teeth on the turf, arena football to be exact. was leader of an offense known as the greatest show on "turf" with the rams. plays currently in arizona stadium on turf! his skillset and hall of fame status comes from playing on turf! matt leinart is playin behind a hall of famer, ON TURF!! no one. NO ONE! is better than warner with his accuracy in this environment. leinart just has to wait his time and follow after kurt and his superbowl champion experience, and then simply play.

He's expected to deal with being a backup and won't request a trade.

I've thought a lot about this question, and the answers is no he is not.
Sure, maybe he will be, but as of right now, he isn't. Why is that? Well first, he's never had enough time to prove himself a bust, or to prove himself to be a good, solid QB. Once he gets some good regular season time after Warner retires, then we can see what kind of player he is.
Another reason I don't call him a bust yet, is because when he has played (mostly preseason) he still hasn't played all that horrible. He's had his ups and his downs, but hasn't played consistently bad. While he hasn't broken out and played really well, he still hasn't been all that bad.
Why do people call him a bust all the time? It's because of how high he went in the draft, and that he hasn't really produced up to this point. It's kind of like Vince Young's situation. He really hasn't played all that bad, there were just much higher expectations coming out of college.
There's my thoughts, I'm not sure that everyone agrees, but that's what I think.

thats why this thread is over the top ridiculous! kurt warner IS A LEGEND ON TURF! leinart played like crap, when? when the whole team gave up and they shoved him in late with the snow on the road at the patriots? great conditions to judge one of his only few minutes he played the whole year! a bust? now thats vince young. his mechanics will never change. he had locked up the position, and was NEVER going to get it back. but leinart never has sniffed the field. and believe this, from what ive known and read about whisenhunt and especially his Ocoordinator, a SERIOUS PARCELLS GUY, it may have been labeled a competition, but the reigns of that team was going all the way with the guy who had playoff and superbowl experience, and thats kurt warner.
