There was never any doubt that Terrell Owens, the newest Buffalo Bill, would draw attention to the area; but now, there's confirmation he'll draw additional cameramen, too.
The standout wide receiver who once told reporters to 'getcha popcorn ready' for the game, will now be the star of his own reality show set to film in Buffalo.
VH1 acknowledged Tuesday that the company is in production with T.O. for a reality show that profiles his life off the field. Brett Henne, VH1's senior vice president of communications and Public Affairs, said he also learned of Owens' move to Buffalo through the media, but that "we're sure the show will tape sometime in Buffalo."
Currently referred to as "The Terrell Owens Project," the show is slated for an August primetime premiere on the cable channel.
VH1 President Tom Calderone, a Buffalo State graduate, said the show was green-lit for production two to three months ago and was just beginning to film in Dallas. Now, he said production crews are regrouping to determine how Buffalo and this latest storyline will fit into the show.
While the original project may be slightly changed, a January press release from VH1 said the show will shadow T.O. and two of his best friends who also serve as his female publicists.
"Mo and Kita [Monique Jackson and Kita Williams] want to help Terrell match all the success he's had on the field with that same kind of success off the field.
Now, after a string of relationships and off-the-field endeavors, Terrell is ready to re-examine his personal life and finally put a plan into action. These outspoken, vibrant women are more like T.O's sisters than people who work for him. They will function as matchmakers and therapists and also put their marketing expertise to use and help him make his life off the field as successful as his life on it!"
Calderone said by phone Tuesday afternoon that VH1 will release more details about the exact storyline and shooting locations after the production team develops a new gameplan.
Tim Clark, who heads the Buffalo-Niagara Film Commission, said he has not been contacted by VH1 but is excited about any filming in Buffalo. He said it will be good to introduce Buffalo to a younger demographic.
Clark also added that the filming could be a boost to the economy because VH1 may hire local film crews, while out-of-town employees would likely stay in hotels and eat in Buffalo-area restaurants.

Of course he is.
Because, if he didn't, he wouldn't be T.O.
