http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=A ... &type=lgnsDANA POINT, Calif. (AP)—More games that count, perhaps as early as August 2011? That’s exactly what NFL commissioner Roger Goodell wants.
There are several hurdles before the league can expand its regular season from 16 to 17 or 18 games. Among them is reaching a new collective bargaining agreement with the players’ union.

I'm a season ticket holder and I hope this happens. The preseason tickets are basically worthless and can't be moved. The league needed to change this years ago, the players spoke up about it, and now it needs to become a reality.

I hope it happens because i absolutley hate when the season ends. It seems as if in the NFL when the season starts the next week it ends. So im praying for 18 games if not 18 im good wit 17. Only prob wit 17 is that its a odd number.

Am I the only one that hates this idea?
16 games is perfect.

so the plan would be to convert some of the preseason games?
i'd probably be ok with that, adding them at the end probably wouldn't be for the best

I always thought of having 17 games.....
every team gets an one international game..and to get rid of fatigue..when you have an international game you get a bye week the week after (so in theory each team has 2 bye weeks)
and you get 1 or 2 games in countries like England, Canada, Mexico, Germany and so forth..
It will help the expansion of the game...

I wouldn't be mad if this happened, but I think it should stay at 16.

If they eliminated some pre-seasaon games to do this I would say go for it, but if they are keeping it how it is now with 4 pre-season games and adding games to the regular season than I am against it. There's no need to expand the regular season and keep 4 pre-season games when that only increases the risks of long term or short term injury for players.

EVeryone's thinking would have to be rewired regarding a players achievements.
What would a 2000 yards rushing mean in an 18 game season?

Good point, I hadn't thought of it in this way. Good first post, actually - welcome!
The 16 games feels so right to me. I don't know how to put it into words. Besides, these guys endure enough physical strain. I think it's fine as is.

I'm all for shortening the pre season, and/or at least having the teams drop the ticket prices for preseason by somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 but I'd prefer to keep the reg. season at 16 games.

anybody think that if roger goodell actually gave a damn about the players safey he wouldnt be thinking about extending the season? i see this strictly as a money move (same goes for a rule like the brady rule, to keep the glamorous position healthy)

I feel the same way about it. By the time the post season rolls around we're going to be seeing teams with a lot more guys on the injured reserve.

Terrible idea. If anything the season is too long.

This is taking out preseason games and replacing them with games that matter. The season wouldn't be lengthened any, just more games that matter.

then just decrease the preseason by 1 or 2 games and not screw over the season ticket holders, this is strictly a money move by goodell and owners
