Anyone in here ever been to the NFL Draft?

Post#1 » by Wizards2Lottery » Sun Mar 29, 2009 9:31 pm

Looking to go this year with some friends. Wondering how this works. Would be much appreciated if someone could tell the time of arrival, prices, etc etc.

Thanks!

Yeah I remember that too but can't remember who the poster was. Good to hear that it's free. That solves the money issue part. Thanks.

I would love to go to the draft. I'd stay from the first pick to Mr. Irrelevant, too.

It's on my bucket list.

If school field trip destinations are what excite you then we also have the Georgia Aquarium and High Museum of Art.

The High Museum of Art, or the Museum of High Art?

You see what I did there?

The draft is free, but the line to get in starts about 4AM. The line itself is quite fun--fans of all different teams are hanging out, drinking, like a giant cold tailgate party. It's mostly Jets, Eagles, Giants, and Patriots fans.

I was at the 2004 draft and the actual draft itself is insanely boring. Nothing happens between the Commish's trips to the podium. There's no alcohol, the bottles of water cost $4, you can't get radio reception in there to hear commentary, and once you leave you can't get back in. Of course some things have changed since then but it's still much more fun to go to a team draft party or a sports bar.

Team-sponsored draft parties are the way to go if you can make it to one. The Browns had one in 2006 that was awesome--lots of giveaways, a couple of team execs were there to answer questions and take abuse, lots of good food. My brother scored a Browns hat and an autographed photo of Bernie Kosar. I know the Bears always throw a good one too. Last year IIRC (might have been 07) Mike Ditka, Mongo, and Dan Hampton were all there and very accessible. Real good chance to meet some players and sports radio personalities and score some schwag.

a room full of drunken Boston/NY/Philly fans who have been shut off? Yeah, I'll have to pass on that adventure.

I could not imagine a more boring event to go see. The good thing about watching the draft on TV is that you can flip channels in between picks and not listen to ESPN try and analyze.

I went two years ago, and the line does NOT begin at 4AM. It actually starts the night before, around 11PM. They say they don't let people line up until 4, but it's not true.

Thanks. I've been going to the Skins draft parties at Fed Ex Field the past few years and will be doing the same this year. It doesn't sound too exciting to attend it in New York.

Fed Ex Field draft parties are a lot of fun anyways. They open up the parking lot for tailgates and have a lot of cool stuff set up all around the stadium. Of course Snyder rips us off with outrageous prices but oh well...

I think going to an official team draft party in the city of the team is the way to go
