The Ravens fall from 3rd to 8th?

Just out of curiosity, what spurred the leap of the Ravens by the Titans? The author even said that the Titans got worse with the Haynesworth and their tough division. Doesn't make much sense.

Sort of odd for a team that was close to making the Superbowl now dropped to 8th...

watch out for the cincinnati bengals and the cleveland browns. with their new additions at linebacker, they will be off the charts defensively.

Colts seem high for a new coach and some serious questions about their defense.

Any poll that does not have the defending Super Bowl champs at #1 before any games have been played is written by a friggin idiot.

2. Pittsburgh
Other than losing Bryant McFadden (free agency, Arizona), nothing significant happened to a deep roster this offseason. You can be sure Mike Tomlin won't be much of a laurel-rester, but it's always quasi-impossible to repeat.

I had a friend of Ben Roethlisberger's tell me the best thing that could have happened to him was not being MVP of the Super Bowl. After he led one of the best playoff drives ever to give Pittsburgh its Super Bowl title, Santonio Holmes got the MVP. Big Ben said he was fine with it, but now he's got something else to shoot for and some perceived critics to shut up.

I worry a little about Hines Ward surviving another physical season, because there's not a good possession-receiver/playmaker behind him. I worry about Casey Hampton being in shape. When those are your biggest worries about a team, that team's in pretty good shape.

:P
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

I'm gonna disagree. Offseason changes have been made, just because you were best team at the end of last season doesn't mean you're still best team. Really the whole point of making power rankings at this point is to gauge offseason progress.

Yes, but a team can look great on paper following free agency. I honestly don't think the Patriots look like the best paper team, but the Steelers deserve to be the #1 in any power rankings until they are dethroned... or if they start 0-4.

There's no point in making power rankings in May if you're just going to rank teams on how they finished last year.

I'm working one up and it looks something like this:
1. PIT
2. SD
3. NYG
4. PHI
5. NE
and I'll be pretty surprised if the two Super Bowl combatants don't come from that group
next group in no real order:
ARI, IND, DAL, CAR, ATL, MIN, BAL
next group:
CHI, NO, SEA, HOU, TEN, GB, MIA
next: SF, CIN, JAX, BUF, WAS, NYJ, OAK
the rest, pretty much in order:
CLE
STL
DEN
TB
KC
DET
The Lions might very well be the most improved team this offseason and still have almost no shot at winning more than 4 games.

A bit OT, but I'd like to know if you've heard anything on the Bucs QB situation, Ic?

Josh McCown came out and said that it's his job to lose. Any merit to that statement?

Tennessee in the third-tier? Really?

Albert Haynesworth wasn't THAT good.

You know I've been prediciting their imminent decline for years now. Can't abandon that now. Hey, I'm smart but I'm not perfect 8-)

That's true. If that's the case, keep predicting! :D

All we have been hearing for the last couple of seasons was how awesome Haynesworth was and now he's not "THAT good."

Well, he's not on the Titans now. :D

In all honesty, what I meant to say, albeit in a roundabout way, is that the Titans are still good without Haynesworth and should at least be higher than a third-tier team considering they finished with the best record in the league last year

If they win even one game, they'll be the most improved team on a percentage basis in NFL history.

I knew what you meant, it was just funny. I agree they'll be better than that.
