The book I use has a couple different:
Saints +/- 8
Chargers +/- 10.5
Redskins +/- 6.5
Lions +/- 4.5
Ravens +/- 9

Several of these early ones will move up or down 1 to 1.5 as the $$ roll in and injuries happen.
Best week to place these types of bets is after Week 2 of preseason. People get overly excited/down on teams based on preseason and the line often adjusts the wrong way by half a point. Happened last year with the Lions--got an extra half-win to play with, not that I needed it for the "under".

The three that really sound attractive to me:
Raiders over 5.5
Patriots over 11.5
Bills under 7.5

I like the under on both the Browns and the Broncos. The Steelers should be a near-mortal lock for the over as well.

NFL Futures (betting)

Post#6 » by atki_bre » Mon Jul 20, 2009 5:07 pm

Hi,

I was just wondering what do you think of the win's futures on sportsbook.

I was thinking under for Miami, Denver and NYJ and maybe the over on SF49ers and/or the SEA.

Any feedback and/or picks would be appreciated

I'll take the under. I don't like their offense, even though I saw the wildcat in person. I think it was a gimmick that won't work near as well this season and I don't trust Chad Pennington as the starter in that division.

Green Bay Packers
Over/Under 9

I'll take the under, the division got a lot better while the Packers haven't gotten much better. With a healthy defense and BJ Raji added, their run defense should improve, but I don't think they'll get past 8-8. Or, they have the talent to win 11 games. I'm leaning towards the former.

New England Patriots
Over/Under 11.5

The strong gets stronger. It's quite easy to take the over and I will. It's a tough division and the Patriots have an aging defense, but you can't count them out.

New Orleans Saints
Over/Under 8.5

The NFC South is tricky. A team could be 7-9 or 12-4 and there wouldn't be much of a difference between them. I like some of the moves they made on defense (getting rid of Jason David) and they have a potent offense, finally adding a competent back behind Pierre Thomas.

New York Giants
Over/Under 10

Under. Eli Manning has to prove to me he can succeed without Plaxico. I don't think the loss of Derrick Ward will hurt too much, they have depth at RB. The already great defense got better, though I can't say I love their DBs. Aaron Ross is one of the best young corners, though.

New York Jets
Over/Under 7

I'll take the over. Both sides of the ball should improve under Ryan, adding Bart Scott on the team should get them to at least 8 wins.

Oakland Raiders
Over/Under 5.5

This is fun. OVER. The Raiders have a sneaky talented offense and you can always count on their defense especially with top corner Nnamdi Asomugha shutting down an entire side of the field. Watch the Raiders late in the season in 2008, they've gotten better since then, and that was a good stretch.

Philadelphia Eagles
Over/Under 9.5

I really wanna say over. Adding Maclin and LeSean McCoy should make an already good offense even better. Their O-line could boom or bust with the Andrews brothers and Jason Peters, especially after losing a leader like Jon Runyan. I'll say over, but I wouldn't recommend taking the bet.

Pittsburgh Steelers
Over/Under 10.5

I hate the steelers. Over.

San Diego Chargers
Over/Under 9.5

This should be interesting. Phillip Rivers is one of the best QBs in the league, but I'm not confident in their RB situation. Sproles is nothing like Maurice Jones Drew, and while I expect LT to rebound, San Diego needs a solid #2 to succeed, and I'm not confident they do. I'll say over, but barely. I have them winning 10, possibly missing the playoffs in any other division.

San Francisco 49ers
Over/Under 7

PUSH. Should be a better team, and I do think they could do well in the division with Shaun Hill at the helm and that underrated defense, but in the end, it's a surprisingly competitive division.

Seattle Seahawks
Over/Under 7.5

Over. They had a bad season due to injuries, I fully expect Seattle to recover.

St Louis Rams
Over/Under 5.5

Under. Horrible team, Bulger seems to have fallen dramatically since signing the contract, or even before if you ask me. Steven Jackson and Avery are the offense. They lose Orlando Pace and I don't think Jason Smith will be the anchor Pace was a few years back, at least not this year.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Over/Under 6.5

I'll say under, but they could very well win the division. I don't have any confidence in their QBs, I thought it was a mistake to let Jeff Garcia go. While that defense keeps adding players every season, the loss of Derrick Brooks will be felt.

Tennessee Titans
Over/Under 9

Push. You heard me. They can't stop Steve Slaton, even with Haynesworth in the lineup, and with him gone, a lot of their defensive holes will be exposed. To the common fan, they had a ridiculously deep line, but none of their DTs can replace Haynesworth.

Washington Redskins
Over/Under 8

Push. Tough division, I doubt Haynesworth will make an immediate impact. Look for Kris Jenkins to take the title of best DT in the league.

Houston Texans
Over/Under 8

I won't comment, I have a bias. OVER!!!!

Indianapolis Colts
Over/Under 10

Under. The loss of Tony Dungy and Tom Moore will be felt, regardless of Moore's role in the team. I don't like their defense, and their offense will continue to be prolific. Even more so now with Donald Brown; they were a bit bad in the rushing department last season, I expect Brown to pick it back up.

Jacksonville Jaguars
Over/Under 8

Under. I've said it before, I'll say it again. Trading Marcus Stroud and letting Mike Petersen go were huge mistakes. This is finally the year Del Rio gets canned.

Kansas City Chiefs
Over/Under 6

Arizona Cardinals
Over/Under 8.5

Atlanta Falcons
Over/Under 8

Baltimore Ravens
Over/Under 8.5

Buffalo Bills
Over/Under 7.5

Carolina Panthers
Over/Under 8.5

Chicago Bears
Over/Under 8.5

Cincinnati Bengals
Over/Under 6

Cleveland Browns
Over/Under 7

Dallas Cowboys
Over/Under 9

Denver Broncos
Over/Under 7.5

Detroit Lions
Over/Under 5

Minnesota Vikings
Over/Under 9

I'll do the rest later.

I am thinking the Philly one looks good. If McNabb, Westbrook, stays healthy I think they are good for 10 wins.
Titans i think will be under.
