Could LBJ been a star in the NFL ?

Exhibit A

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4194437

Murphy's 11-year career at strong safety was good enough to get him into the Green Bay Packers' Hall of Fame. He has covered, tackled and occasionally been scorched by legends.

On the subject of greatness, he knows what he's talking about.

"I've been around a lot of great receivers," Murphy said. "I tell people that I rate my top receivers -- coaching, playing or watching -- as James Lofton, Jerry Rice, Steve Largent and LeBron James."

"People laugh at me, but it's true," Murphy said of placing James in the same class as three Pro Football Hall of Famers. "The kid had everything you could want.

"I felt like that was one kid that could have gone from high school to the NFL and played."

Makes you wonder, doesn't it; what might have happened had James chosen football over basketball?

"I think LeBron could come in and do better than Antonio Gates," New England Patriots receiver Randy Moss said. "LeBron James is the athlete that comes around every so often.

"He's at a point in his career where the things that he does are something we haven't seen before. … It's just very rare for athletes to be able to do the things that he does to entertain and wow us night in and night out."

"A lot of those basketball players, they can't run," Parcells said. "They don't have legitimate speed. This kid's pretty amazing, though."

^ you gotta read the entire article, there's much more info

Exhibit B

he's got the looks !

James played football for two seasons at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, scoring 27 touchdowns and attracting the attention of Ohio State and Notre Dame.

He has better physical tools for a wide receiver than anyone in the NFL, and he was apparently a great wide receiver in high school (first-team all-state in his sophomore year), despite focusing much more on basketball. Don't see why he couldn't have been a great wide receiver in the NFL, assuming he fully committed himself to training hard and being the best he could be.

No..... Why would he be a star in the NFL? Many RB's WR's and other positions are his size with his strength and speed... nothing new... he wouldn't be any kind of star in the NFL.

Name me one wr, rb or kicker for that matter that has his athleticism?!
His athleticism is a once in a generation combination of size, speed and strength...
Calvin Johnson is probably the most gifted athlete in the NFL. But even he doesnt compare to Lebron as a physical specimen.

I think he would have been unguardable (as long as he learned plays and route running to a good level) he does have the work ethic so...

Yeah, 6'8 250lb insanely athletic WRs and RBs are a dime a dozen.

Physically/athletically he'd be THE standout. The only questions would be his football skills and how he handles the contact. He's a skilled and physical guy in the NBA so I imagine he'd be able to hold his own.

I'd switch him to safety or even OLB and turn him loose. More impact on more of the game.

It's crazy to think what a guy with his size could do at WR though. Look at Calvin Johnson at 6'5" 240ish, Randy Moss at his size, and Lebron dwarfs them both and is probably just as fast if not faster. Yikes!
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

Lebron is waaaay too big to play RB, and probably WR. TE is not a particularly valuable position, so he would not play TE.

As I posted in the other thread, someone of his size and skillset would almost certainly play DE. DE is one of the most valuable positions in football and is the position where the freaks tend to play. Best position for someone with ridiculous size/athleticism but not necessarily a ton of football skills.

TE is as valuable as the team makes it. See: Tony Gonzalez

He might as well play one season. Then everyone can anoint him the greatest of all-time in NFL history, too.

**** LeBron James.

I never understand the whole he is too big to play WR?!?!
I mean this guy guards guards in the NBA so you know he has the speed..
Now his burst might not be as great...
but can you imagine any one cb that could hand his body?!?!I mean he has at least 8 inchs and superior jump to all cb's..
if you dont double him...it wouldnt be fair (that is ofcourse as he has any ounce of skills)...

The OLB i think about...but his height is to much and therefore wouldnt have the leverage needed on run support..but imagine the athleticism in pass rush?!?!would any tackle ever seen anything like it..?!?!

Now safety would be a good position if he had the intelligence...him playing center field would be a sight to watch..
