FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Two-time Pro Bowl safety Rodney Harrison announced his retirement on Wednesday, saying he is through hitting quarterbacks after a 15-year career for the New England Patriots and San Diego Chargers.

"I am done, and I am very much so at peace with that," Harrison said in a conference call with reporters. "Football has been good to me. I've worked hard; I've played hard. I've done some things that I never dreamt I could do, and now it's time to move forward to the next phase of my life."

Later Wednesday, NBC announced that Harrison, along with former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy, will join its NFL studio show; Harrison worked for the network during its Super Bowl coverage last year.

"People have called me a dirty player. I'm a very passionate player," Harrison said. "I also understand that this is not volleyball. This is a very violent, physical game, and if you hit someone in the mouth, you're not going to be their friend. That's what the game of football is."

I think he's a HOFer, you?

I think he is, but voters are pansies and he won't get in for being dirty. This is football. You are supposed to hit hard.
First the federal government borrowed money; then gave the money to Bank of America; then I borrowed some of that money from Bank of America and gave it to the federal government; then the federal government gave the money back to Bank of America.

Great player and it was a pleasure watching him.

He's replacing Bettis, so he can't be worse than him. I think Rodney will actually be very good in this role.

As for HOF, I think he should get in there. If people can look past the HGH and his "dirty" label the numbers back him up.

He was my favorite player of all time growin up watching football. Even when he was on the chargers, even when he was injured every year on the pats.

He played safety how I wish every safety could play. He was amazing in his prime.

He should be in the HOF.
