Eagles D-Coordinator Jim Johnson dies at 68

Post#1 » by Da Schwab » Tue Jul 28, 2009 10:40 pm

Just saw this on ESPN. Sad, sad stuff.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4362252

PHILADELPHIA -- Jim Johnson, whose attacking defenses helped the Philadelphia Eagles to one Super Bowl appearance and five NFC title games, has died. He was 68.

Johnson had taken a leave of absence from the team in May as he continued to battle a cancerous tumor on his spine. The Eagles announced his death on Tuesday afternoon.

Even though I'm a Giants fan, I could appreciate the time and knowledge this guy possessed to put together some very tough defensive squads over the last 10 years in Philly.

Such a shame that a guy of his caliber passes away at a (relatively) younger age. My thoughts are with his family and the Eagles organization.

wow, this a big loss to the nfl. the cancer must've spread fast

he always scared the crap out of me w/the agressive blitz schemes he always hatched up and of course the cowboys earlier this decade was a joke and they just murdered us

but i really respected him b/c he always had such great attacking defenses always ready to play and that defense was fun to watch

Man as an Eagles fan it killed me to hear this on NFL Network (and pissed me off that they talked about Brett Favre STAYING retired more).
He was a great coordinator and I'll definitely miss him.
RIP Jim

GREAT defensive mind. Took what Gunther Cunningham started and morphed it into a very effective defensive style. Good teacher of the game too--look at how much he helped so many guys develop.

RIP, he will be missed.

Big loss, I really didn't expect the news. I knew his cancer was bad, but a man who created such a tough defense was elevated in my eyes.

May he RIP and haunt the Cowboys from beyond the grave.

I don't know much about the guy, but it is sad to see anyone pass away at such an age. RIP.
